Why does this require an iCloud+ sub?

BroBot9000@lemmy.world on 04 Feb 16:56 collapse

Why does this even exist beyond wanting more of peoples data?

TheRealCharlesEames@lemm.ee on 04 Feb 16:59 next collapse

I don’t think Apple is harvesting this data, but I could be wrong

Majorllama@lemmy.world on 04 Feb 17:38 collapse

If you don’t think they are collecting any user data I have a bridge to sell you.

Doesn’t appear that they are collecting anything they don’t already have, but again I’m not an expert in privacy and legal lingo

And I’m not in the market for a bridge at this time, thank you though

Information about upcoming social events is extremely easy to monetize.

They already know the people, you just told them a valuable piece of ad targeting data that can be used against all your guests.

What? You really think such a service/feature is useless?

You know event invites on Facebook was one of its biggest draws early on, right?

deegeese@sopuli.xyz on 04 Feb 17:27 next collapse

No thanks, I’ll stick with Evite which works with everything and doesn’t need a subscription.

paraphrand@lemmy.world on 04 Feb 20:39 next collapse

Do you suspect anyone will sign up for iCloud just for this feature? Neither do I.

maxprime@lemmy.ml on 05 Feb 01:02 collapse

What happened to texting, emailing, or calling people?

deegeese@sopuli.xyz on 05 Feb 03:16 collapse

Evite does 2 out of those three. Your grandma with a land line you’ll still have to call.

“Sorry, I can’t invite you to my wedding because you use Android.”

Guests can view and respond to an invitation using the new iPhone app or on the web without needing an iCloud+ subscription or an Apple Account.

paraphrand@lemmy.world on 04 Feb 20:35 collapse

We have the web for that!

With Apple Invites, users can create and easily share invitations, RSVP, contribute to Shared Albums, and engage with Apple Music playlists.

This is actually really awesome. Simplifying the shared album process on its own is super helpful and helps illustrate to me why this is separate from the Calendar app.

I sent my wife a test invite. It’s really cool and beats the hell out of making a new group text for every event to see if people want to come and hound them for answers.

I wonder how long it will take until it’s shut down by the Apple morality police due to being used for porn.

bobble86@lemm.ee on 05 Feb 09:23 collapse

Can I also invite people from none iOS devices without apple account?
