Now to explain this, i haven’t installed an app in a while now. And recently, this showed up.

This really concerns me if i am being recorded or something. I know this isn’t the right subreddit to ask, but what should i do?

Throw your phone away and get an android. Lol

EDIT: I would report it to Apple as bug. Who knows if it’s part of iOS or an app- the only way you could tell is if you start uninstalling your apps.

Well, i do not have an app named “Unknown”. I am really concerned if something was sideloaded without me knowing.

I edited my original post, see if what I wrote makes a bit more sense.

The part where it says “Unknown” is usually where the name of the app is:

Gotcha, I’ll edit my reply accordingly then.

can you go to settings/privacy and security and see which apps have microphone access?

narc0tic_bird@lemm.ee on 21 Sep 2024 12:44 next collapse

I had an “Unknown” app using my microphone on the Apple Watch from time to time. Turns out it was the handwashing detection. Nowadays it’s labelled correctly.

This can also be an app that you (very) recently deleted, but as the dot is still showing it’s indicating that the microphone is in use right at this moment. I would assume it’s a system service that isn’t properly labelled (maybe something to do with iOS 18 being so new and it was an oversight), but I don’t know which system service would need to use the microphone.

Is this persistent across reboots?

prousername@lemmy.ml on 21 Sep 2024 13:13 collapse

It is. I just rebooted my phone and it came back.

Walk into an Apple store and show the genius at the bar …

Search for and turn on “App Privacy Report” in settings and see what that brings up.

Did you hide any apps in iOS 18?

I’m wondering if the UI wouldn’t show the name of a hidden app…
