I think the Hard Fork podcast has a good point about Apple Maps this week. Since Apple maps now has good maps / high adoption in many places, Google actually has real competition.
That’s means Google can’t do what they’re doing with search. They can’t monetize the shit out of things and run the UX into the ground. If they do that, they’ll bleed users in areas with high iOS install bases and good AM coverage.

This has already kind of happened aswell. Apple competing making google improve their service. Google never had street view in Germany, because when they first tried it there were many protests. Only when they noticed apple had gotten full street view coverage of Germany, did google realise there wasn’t much opposition anymore, and they went and covered Germany.
