Hilarious

Kolanaki@pawb.social on 23 Aug 20:48 next collapse

I’m more surprised by the fact that people actually drink Monster at all.

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world on 23 Aug 21:31 next collapse

I’m visiting Ohio right now. There is Monster EVERYWHERE.

Kolanaki@pawb.social on 23 Aug 21:41 next collapse

I prefer NOS myself. It doesn’t taste like toxic chemical sludge (even if it still is toxic chemical sludge).

captainlezbian@lemmy.world on 24 Aug 07:13 collapse

Huh yeah there is less of it around now that im not in Ohio. Weird

vile_asslips@sh.itjust.works on 23 Aug 22:08 next collapse

My coworkers basically live off of Monster energy drinks. Those energy drinks mess with my heart too much, so I stay far away.

slampisko@lemmy.world on 24 Aug 07:17 next collapse

I have ADHD and energy drinks have been helping me focus when I don’t have access to meds. Somehow Monster is the cheapest among the select few brands that I actually like the taste of (and a lot of people shit on it because of the taste – I guess it shows how subjective it is). I’m not happy about financially supporting a corp that makes money on getting people addicted to sugar, but I can’t deny the effects the drinks have on me

anomnom@sh.itjust.works on 25 Aug 12:09 collapse

Does coffee not work? It’s about $8 a month for me if I make it at home.

I do pour over in a chemex, a full pot (6 cups) lasts 3 days, and lives in the fridge, just gotta remember to make it the night before if you want it iced.

slampisko@lemmy.world on 25 Aug 12:42 next collapse

Weirdly, it doesn’t work as well for me. I think the dopamine hit is just not that strong

Honytawk@feddit.nl on 25 Aug 12:49 collapse

Coffee stinks, rather drink an energy drink than that crap.

anomnom@sh.itjust.works on 28 Aug 13:04 collapse

I cut back on sugar after having kids, and once I cut back really don’t miss it except for icecream or occasional donuts. I’ve also never liked fake sugar tastes. But whatever works for you.

Akasazh@feddit.nl on 24 Aug 08:52 collapse

Sometimes I’m curious as to the taste, but it only come in half liters and I would most likely toss out most of that, so I’ve never bothered

Kolanaki@pawb.social on 24 Aug 09:24 collapse

Redbull, Rockstar, and Monster all taste about the same; but IDK if the ingredients–like taurine–are the same outside the US or if that would alter the taste significantly.

Akasazh@feddit.nl on 24 Aug 13:41 collapse

Taurine is in red bull over here, so it should be in monster. I would probably try one had they smaller sizes.

BedSharkPal@lemmy.ca on 23 Aug 21:11 next collapse

I mean… They aren’t wrong.

evujumenuk@lemmy.world on 23 Aug 23:05 next collapse

I wonder what they think about their Pipeline Punch customers. Specifically, how much overlap is there with, y’know, the memes?

Oh no i had a pipeline punch once.

Did you start transitioning yet?

This timeline needs a new writer…

I was hoping for more user stories.

sanpedropeddler@sh.itjust.works on 24 Aug 00:31 next collapse

You mean monster energy targets their branding and advertising to people who are more likely to buy their products? Unbelievable /s

I don’t know why we’re acting like young poor white men haven’t always been the main demographic for this drink.

bulwark@lemmy.world on 24 Aug 03:39 next collapse

“Monster Green shoppers are likely younger (Gen-Z/Millennial/Gen-X) male, lower income & Caucasian (skews Hispanic).”

Wtf kinda bullshit statement is that? No old Gen-Zers but young millennials like monster? White people mainly like it but also skews Hispanic? Like how? It’s all incel nectar anyways.

eletes@sh.itjust.works on 24 Aug 03:46 next collapse

Younger as in less than 40 or so for gen X and below.

Also you can be Caucasian and Hispanic in demographic standards

npr.org/…/on-the-census-who-checks-hispanic-who-c…

W3dd1e@lemmy.zip on 24 Aug 04:03 next collapse

Jokes on them. I’m an almost 40 year old white woman who has a sleep disorder. I buy them because it’s cheaper at the gas station when I buy two at the same time. Not because of the taste. >_<

caurvo@aussie.zone on 24 Aug 04:54 collapse

As someone who’s done a few U&A segmentations - it’s likely that the consumer base they’re describing has an over index of Hispanic people relative to the overall market. 10% base, 20% segment kind of thing. So there’s a slightly higher representation within the core segment even if the overall description remains dominantly caucasian.

Having inherited some McKinsey and BCG segments, this is how they think. Even if it’s an outdated approach to segmentation.

Yes, my job is soul sucking - how did you know?

Article is already gone (legal issues?) in case you were interested in reading it the internet archive has a copy web.archive.org/web/…/monster-energy

Xartle@lemmy.ml on 25 Aug 10:54 next collapse

That was actually a great writeup.

Preventer79@sh.itjust.works on 25 Aug 11:05 next collapse

Their depiction of their customers is actually more flattering than what I imagined.

rekabis@lemmy.ca on 25 Aug 21:27 collapse

Thank you for that link.

Honestly, I don’t know why Lemmy doesn’t pester people to use Archive links when posting, or use an internal API call to auto-convert any link to an Archive link. It could make linkrot a thing of the past for this site.
