I have a need to create a new account on mastodon, but I am not familiar with the different instances and servers.

There’s one hosted by a Hexbear user called “matopacos.dog,” that’s one I’ve been eyeing!

limer@lemmy.ml on 15 Oct 17:06 next collapse

I’ll check it out, thanks

tofu@lemmy.nocturnal.garden on 16 Oct 06:52 next collapse

That doesn’t seem to exist? I can’t reach it

Cowbee@lemmy.ml on 16 Oct 09:12 collapse

Huh, you’re right, it used to though.

silentjohn@lemmy.ml on 16 Oct 11:19 collapse

It’s toots.matapacos.dog

Cowbee@lemmy.ml on 16 Oct 11:33 collapse

Oh thanks!

mbirth@lemmy.ml on 15 Oct 18:23 next collapse

mastodon.social is the flagship instance and as left as it gets.

limer@lemmy.ml on 15 Oct 18:38 next collapse

I don’t see many posts about socialism or communism when I do a search. Maybe I am doing it wrong?

And I look at their feeds about USA politics. Heavy Democratic Party.

bad_news@lemmy.billiam.net on 15 Oct 20:55 next collapse

Mastodon.social is about as “left” as lemmy.world, which is to say it’s the right flank of the democrat party.

Hexadecimalkink@lemmy.ml on 17 Oct 13:20 collapse

Mastodon.social is all Democrat centrist. The main feed might as well be Rachel Maddow MSNBC.

tofu@lemmy.nocturnal.garden on 15 Oct 19:08 next collapse

It’s absolutely not “as left as it gets”

mbirth@lemmy.ml on 16 Oct 03:36 next collapse

Depends on the area. As it’s a German instance, in terms of German politics it really is “as left as it gets”. But they probably don’t care much about US politics.

tofu@lemmy.nocturnal.garden on 16 Oct 06:48 collapse

That implies US politics would be more left than German politics? Neither German nor US politics are “as left as it gets”, so I’m not sure they are a great measure here.

It’s a general purpose instance. Gargron may be left leaning, but I don’t think he’s into radical left politics?

There are instances with leftist statements in their about section, openly leftist teams and largely lefty/political local timelines.

mbirth@lemmy.ml on 16 Oct 09:35 collapse

I was thinking more that their moderation team is mostly German and thus they’re very sensitive about German politics but less sensitive about other countries’ politics.

I got shadowbanned for life for mentioning not to blindly believe some statement about a “secret” report about the German right-wing party without seeing said report first. So that’s that.

tofu@lemmy.nocturnal.garden on 16 Oct 09:55 collapse

Maybe I misunderstood what you meant with “as it gets”? I thought it basically means it"can’t be more left because it’s already maximum left" and I didn’t see how that’s supported by your experience.

mbirth@lemmy.ml on 16 Oct 10:53 collapse

Might be a language barrier as I’m not a native English speaker, yes. And I was referring to their moderation team. They seem to have no issues with extremist left stuff, but the moment you don’t display nothing but pure hate against something considered “right” (in the context of German politics) they get very trigger happy with the ban hammer.

mistermodal@lemmy.ml on 15 Oct 20:59 next collapse

Considering the main usage of the phrase “as left as it gets” is to denounce anyone more radical than the speaker, who is typically about as left as Mussolini, that’s too accurate

Faux@lemmy.ml on 16 Oct 09:03 collapse

They are Zionists and you can get banned there for supporting Palestine’s resistance.

3yiyo3@lemmy.ml on 17 Oct 09:16 next collapse

I can confirm that. I created an account at mastodon.social and I’ve encountered some zionists. Some of which even dare to call themselves “anarchists” lmao. Disgusting

ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml on 17 Oct 18:56 collapse

I can’t speak for wether they’re Zionists or not, but being hosted in Germany means they are mandated by law to support the genocide.

tofu@lemmy.nocturnal.garden on 15 Oct 19:10 next collapse

todon.eu and todon.nl as well as kolektiva.social are large, anarchist leaning, instances. There’s plenty smaller ones but those are good starting points.

limer@lemmy.ml on 15 Oct 19:14 next collapse

Thanks !

redhilsha@lemmy.ml on 16 Oct 09:19 next collapse

Do any of the other instances defederate from these or vice versa? I’d still like to be able to see posts from other instances.

tofu@lemmy.nocturnal.garden on 16 Oct 09:32 collapse

I think kolektiva is defederated from some because of rather loose moderation but todon is mostly accepted

limer@lemmy.ml on 16 Oct 14:04 collapse

Both of those have a “no tankees” rule

bear_delune@beehaw.org on 17 Oct 05:43 next collapse

I’m on tech.lgbt; no one I trust with my data more than queer nerds

libre_warrior@lemmy.ml on 17 Oct 09:56 next collapse

I’m on kolektiva.social. Nothing to complain about.

Zerush@lemmy.ml on 17 Oct 13:09 collapse

Mastodon instances are mostly leftists, I’m on socialvivaldi.net, which is almost 100% leftist in political themes.
