i'm seeing regular shock content spam on matrix and even on here. what's going on?

mainly very explicit csam and gore

on matrix, they @ everyone in the room so as much people as possible see the content. it happened on some foss-related rooms i’m in (like emacs, debian, and kde). over here, i saw it appearing in a kde community

From what I read online, Matrix is not very good with its federated moderation tools. Apparently, a quirk of it can cause the state of a federated channel to reset in time, thus also undoing removing of messages. Here is a blog post criticizing Matrix.

I noticed yesterday an onslaught of AI posts to Reddit (weather, whatbirdisit, Michigan, Minnesota). I would have to ask my wife to look at these posts to ensure I wasn’t having a stroke or something because they looked like real images or writing, but they wouldn’t make any sense as a whole.
