Is there any lemmy instance that's truly liberal enough to tolerate a completely divergent point of view ? The EU norms are not for me, and I'm also far far away from the MAGA politics of USA !!!

Here we go again!

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:18 collapse

You’ve really grown into my pal over the past few days 😃😃😃

Etnaphele@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 12:34 next collapse

Are you looking for an echo chamber that fits your views or what do you mean with “tolerate”? If you keep it civil and back up your arguments, I see a lot of potential for serious discussions on a lot of instances.

FelixCress@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 12:54 next collapse

So, what are your views?

nokturne213@sopuli.xyz on 29 Apr 14:04 next collapse

They are anti vax for one.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:53 collapse

Of course 😁😁😁

nokturne213@sopuli.xyz on 29 Apr 19:07 collapse

I certainly hope you are also against having children.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 19:49 collapse

I’m against marriage 🙃🙃🙃

nokturne213@sopuli.xyz on 29 Apr 20:01 collapse

You do not have to be married to have children.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 20:10 collapse

Well, in my society it’s the common practice to be married for having children 😉😉😉… But l’m single… And children are simply out of question…

nokturne213@sopuli.xyz on 29 Apr 20:24 collapse

Good to hear.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:17 next collapse

What could the views of a lemmy user be like whose country has a part of the British Empire for 190 years, whose country has been fragmented by the British Empire during its colonial rule, and later has been significantly impacted by both Europe as well as the USA over the years of its development ???

FelixCress@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 15:02 collapse

I don’t know which is why I am asking.

CMLVI@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 15:36 next collapse

I think he’d prefer you to make assumptions.

FelixCress@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 19:08 collapse

Well, I don’t.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 17:23 collapse

We have been under the oppression of the British Empire for 190 years, and now the MAGA politics of the USA is hitting us badly. But we’ve got such shameless governments that they are dragging us into a war - a war between two nuclear powers.

FelixCress@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 19:09 collapse

You are repeating yourself.

viking@infosec.pub on 29 Apr 12:54 next collapse

Which flavor of liberal are we talking? We’ve come a really long way since the mere word had any decisive meaning.

sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al on 29 Apr 13:21 next collapse

They’re looking for somewhere that would welcome Andrew Tate style takes.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:13 collapse

I find that the lemmy users think that there’s one big Atlantic Ocean in the centre and the world is organised on its either sides. Have you ever figured it out that the lemmy servers are spread in what can be technically called the NATO countries ??? Do you have any idea how many users lemmy can have in the BRICS countries ??? And that’s just the tip of the global south !!!

viking@infosec.pub on 29 Apr 14:43 collapse

Yes. And what exactly does that have to do with my question?

scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech on 29 Apr 12:57 next collapse

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to make your own instance and have it be your haven.

athairmor@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 13:06 next collapse

If you run into an asshole in the morning one instance, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day in every instance, you’re the asshole

Just told my kid this…

hendrik@palaver.p3x.de on 29 Apr 13:16 next collapse

We get that question every few weeks. No, Lemmy isn't a "free speech" place. We tolerate a lot of things here, but the rules are made by the individual communities and instance admins. Generally, they remove misinformation, unhealthy things, hate and such. We don't know about any "islands" which treat things differently. Lemmy is Free Software, though. You're welcome to launch such an instance, and you'll be free to pass arbitrary rules in your own niche.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:33 collapse

Islands ???🤔🤔 Has lemmy moved beyond the two sides of the Atlantic ???

hendrik@palaver.p3x.de on 29 Apr 16:23 collapse

I meant island in the context of, a different Lemmy instance, separated from the tone and atmosphere of the rest of the network. But yes, we have a few people from other parts of the world as well.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 17:02 collapse

I thought lemmy was a software…

hendrik@palaver.p3x.de on 29 Apr 18:02 collapse

That's what I wrote. Lemmy is a software, which can be ran on servers. You're currently on somebody else's server. In a group that is moderated by yet different people.... They gave some rules to you and you now have to choose whether you're willing to play by their rules.

Obviously, they haven't banned you yet, despite you saying lots of unproductive, short sentences. I'm not sure if your original question got answered here. If you're more interested in the details of how Lemmy works, read (for example) the documentation and Wikipedia article.

madjo@feddit.nl on 29 Apr 13:20 next collapse

What exactly are the “EU norms” you’re talking about?

madjo@feddit.nl on 29 Apr 13:56 next collapse

I checked OPs comment history, not sure if conspiracy theory believers about NWO and Cabals are going to have a great time on here.

nokturne213@sopuli.xyz on 29 Apr 14:03 next collapse

They also have a temp banned alt @Docker_84@discuss.online you cannot see most of their comments, I am guessing they were purged with the ban, and do not appear in the mod log.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:50 collapse

Oh that’s temporary ??

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:04 collapse

I don’t know where you live but are you aware about the recent black outs in south western Europe ?? Do you still believe that NWO is a conspiracy theory???

remon@ani.social on 29 Apr 14:08 next collapse

Yes.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:23 collapse

Which one is that ??

remon@ani.social on 29 Apr 14:42 collapse

Both.

hypnicjerk@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:20 next collapse

same answer i gave 40 years ago to my nutjob relatives: yes

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:22 collapse

Wow… You mean you told that even before l was born ??😳😳😳

By the way, l saw the birth of the internet.

hypnicjerk@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:24 next collapse

are you related to me? i fucking hope not

By the way, l saw the birth of the internet.

yeah, gullible idiots rarely grow out of it

thedruid@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:45 collapse

I was born before we landed on the moon. So could be.

You do know the world has been around longer than 40 years, right?

And you weren’t around when the Internet was born if you’re under 40, hell if your under 50, using the the 1970s as a generous approximation of the appearance of packet networks, you still weren’t around at the birth of the internet.

I

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:48 collapse

Wasn’t the internet born after the Berlin Wall was broken down and the USSR collapsed ???😳😳😳😳😳

betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 19:35 collapse

No.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 19:44 next collapse

You mean to say that the internet existed during the heights of the Cold War era ?? But l remember reading in magazines how the world will get entangled by a virtual web, called the world wide web… I used to read such articles in 1994-95… And then finally l got a taste of the internet in '97 or '98…

nokturne213@sopuli.xyz on 29 Apr 22:36 collapse

The Internet =|= World Wide Web

Docker@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 13:03 collapse

Are you from Finland ?? Finland is not in the EU ???

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 19:47 collapse

I don’t remember about the breaking down of the Berlin Wall, but l used to hear about countries called Soviet and West Germany; later l heard that the Soviet had broken up into fragments and that there was now one single Germany. That was long before l heard anything about the internet.

madjo@feddit.nl on 29 Apr 15:52 collapse

Yes, I was aware of the power outages, and yes I still think that NWO is a conspiracy theory. There’s no connection between the NWO and the power outage, which was likely due to big variations in atmospheric temperatures. There’s been no evidence of foul play or cyber attacks.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 17:05 collapse

Maybe not in this particular case, but do you believe that power outages through cyber attacks are absolutely impossible in today’s world ?? Are you aware of weather engineering ???🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

madjo@feddit.nl on 29 Apr 20:25 collapse

Yes, power outages are possible through cyber attacks, and they could become more prevalent. But according to the experts, this particular incident was not a cyber attack. And I prefer to listen to experts than my gut, as my gut is far too often wrong!

Weather engineering is also something that exists, but that is also highly unlikely to be the cause of this particular power outage.

You go ahead and stay in your conspiracy bubble, meanwhile we in reality continue to live our lives like normal.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 20:36 collapse

That’s the fundamental difference between you and me. My guts always tells me what is right for me, whereas experts have been paid to control me !!!

madjo@feddit.nl on 29 Apr 21:36 collapse

And that’s why it’s clear to me that you have a mental defect.

It’s been nice playing with you, but now I’m bored, bye.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 14:07 collapse

Anything that the EU doesn’t agree with is put within the container called “disinformation”. Then there are stringent laws regarding “regulating” the social media.

madjo@feddit.nl on 29 Apr 15:59 collapse

That’s not how anything works.

There are only 2 instances of media outlets being banned based on the outcome of a political action and both had been known to spread complete and utter nonsense as “alternative facts” before they were banned: Russia Today and Sputnik.

There’s not a great big cabal that says what’s true and what’s not.

There are objective facts, there are opinions and there are complete fabrications aka lies aka “alternative facts”.
Facts are fine.
Opinions are fine, but they’re not facts.
Complete fabrications or “alternative facts” are not fine, they can be objectively judged to be complete fabrications.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 17:11 collapse

Objective facts means tested and approved inside laboratories ???

So the people in the West know the ground realities as “alternative facts” ???😳😳

madjo@feddit.nl on 29 Apr 20:30 collapse

I don’t know why you are talking about labs in this comment.

Docker@lemmy.world on 29 Apr 20:38 collapse

Labs means the dead science. What they observe under artificially controlled conditions, they bring it out in the open as science.
