docs.joinpeertube.org/…/third-party-application

electricprism@lemmy.ml on 01 Jun 2024 20:33 next collapse

I never found a winner when I looked into it years ago.

I think OP may have a similar sentiment – what do you guys think? Which ones are #1 ?

VanHalbgott@lemmus.org on 01 Jun 2024 21:10 collapse

There needs to be one for iOS too.

hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world on 01 Jun 2024 23:13 collapse

I have a feeling it’s insanely hard to approve an app like that in the iOS App Store.

But maybe someone proves me wrong…

nicolairathjen@lemmy.world on 02 Jun 2024 00:11 collapse

Is Apple not going to allow sideloading in the EU soon?

refurbishedrefurbisher@lemmy.sdf.org on 02 Jun 2024 01:38 collapse

The apps still have to be approved by Apple, and Apple still gets a cut. It’s not actual sideloading, and it’s all done through Apple-approved third party app stores.

You can’t just download an IPA file and install it.

SSUPII@sopuli.xyz on 01 Jun 2024 20:34 next collapse

I use Newpipe

recursive_recursion@programming.dev on 01 Jun 2024 21:03 next collapse

same here🤗

mesamunefire@lemmy.world on 01 Jun 2024 21:21 next collapse

Same it works well.

SolarPunker@slrpnk.net on 01 Jun 2024 21:23 next collapse

A dedicated more focused app would be better.

5714@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 01 Jun 2024 22:34 collapse

Why?

I like the concept of NewPipe combining several content providers.

To me, NewPipe’s Peertube would be better with a search function that can select any server as base.

SolarPunker@slrpnk.net on 02 Jun 2024 00:10 collapse

Nothing versus newpipe but PeerTube doesn’t need to support proprietary platforms, also a dedicated app would probably be better to implement particular peertube’s features.

JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee on 01 Jun 2024 22:52 next collapse

I use Tubular which integrates Sponsor Block and comment replies.

iturnedintoanewt@lemm.ee on 02 Jun 2024 02:04 next collapse

… How? My Tubular won’t open peertube links, and i have tagged all the extra links it offered in open by default

JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee on 02 Jun 07:00 next collapse

Idk, all I know is that I don’t have NewPipe installed and when someone shared a PeerTube link in Lemmy the other day, Tubular opened it with no problems.

threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works on 02 Jun 17:21 collapse

i have tagged all the extra links it offered

Is this in the app settings or the device settings?

Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 03 Jun 16:17 collapse

Does Tubular support SponsorBlock for PeerTube videos?

Me me me me me me me me me me me me

warmaster@lemmy.world on 01 Jun 2024 22:13 next collapse

you can’t expect it to gain any traction without one.

Chozo@fedia.io on 01 Jun 2024 23:12 collapse

It won't gain traction until there's content on it people actually want to watch. The best app developer in world could make a Peertube app tomorrow, and it wouldn't mean anything to the 99.999% of people who aren't interested in watching 2-hour seminars about Linux kernel.

warmaster@lemmy.world on 01 Jun 2024 23:36 next collapse

That too.

technomad@slrpnk.net on 09 Jun 15:32 collapse

It kind of goes both ways too, doesn’t it? Like, the consumers aren’t going to flock to the alternative platform without good content creators already there, and the content creators usually want to stay on whatever platform will get them the most views.

Fuck google.

electro1@infosec.pub on 01 Jun 2024 22:56 next collapse

It has to exist, it’s crucial… People won’t come to your platform if theres no mobile app…

Wiz@midwest.social on 01 Jun 2024 23:33 next collapse

Fedilab already works as a PeerTube app. A good one!

TheFriar@lemm.ee on 02 Jun 2024 01:40 next collapse

helenslunch@feddit.nl on 02 Jun 2024 01:45 next collapse

Could just write a PlugIn for GrayJay.

Matter of fact, they have one that works already, just doesn’t work properly.

There’s newpipe, libretube, and there’s GrayJay right? What more do we need
