For anyone not familiar with the Miiverse, what’s attractive about it over existing clients?

Krafting@lemmy.world on 21 Nov 00:23 next collapse

Mostly nostalgia, and to be honnest, how awesome would this be!!!

Chozo@fedia.io on 21 Nov 00:45 next collapse

Being able to open a thread and pick up OP's avatar off the ground and watch his little legs kick.

Likes/upvotes are “Yeah!”s and there are miis associated with each post

Twitter was never the town square of the Internet. The Miiverse was.

ElectroVagrant@lemmy.world on 21 Nov 00:12 next collapse

bpt11@sh.itjust.works on 21 Nov 00:28 next collapse

Fediverse streetpass would go craaaaazy

Thanks for the reminder, there’s a fake-it-till-you-make-it already, as a Firefox extension.

Go look in any Cleveland community you can find. You’ll find me essentially poking it with a stick.

C’mon…be active…

Nope. Just me.

Even when Street Pass existed on DS, a system that sold some absurd amount like 160 million units, I never once got a street pass interaction.

And now you think a realworld implementation of street pass for Lemmy, a service with 60k users, is going to be anything besides you wondering where everyone is???

Grass@sh.itjust.works on 21 Nov 05:57 collapse

I carried a ds through the extent of highschool that it existed for, and 2 3ds’s through post secondary. those things were loaded every day with a line up of little people waiting to say hi I’m so and so and some little catch phrase.

Anivia@feddit.org on 21 Nov 15:00 collapse

Yeah, I live in a pretty rural part of Germany and even here I got multiple streetpasses per day

Ghoelian@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 21 Nov 00:33 next collapse

There’s the pretendo network, which continues support for the 3ds. Haven’t used it myself, but I think the miiverse network is also supported by them.

So at least you can still use miiverse to some extent, though probably with way fewer people.

k0mprssd@lemmy.zip on 21 Nov 08:02 next collapse

Yeah!

cabbage@piefed.social on 21 Nov 09:11 next collapse

It would be way too cool if the Wii homebrew scene implemented ActivityPub in the original miiverse. I might just dust of my Wii for that.

xavier666@lemm.ee on 21 Nov 09:44 next collapse

Um…not sure if I’m too old, too young or too poor, but what is the Miiverse?

sawdustprophet@midwest.social on 21 Nov 10:09 collapse

what is the Miiverse?

It was a sort of social space Nintendo ran on the 3DS and Wii U. Kind of combination chat room and message board with a space where Miis (Nintendo avatars) could “hang out”. It could also be used to send messages though games, like you could leave a message as a sort of note in Mario Maker or Splatoon. I thought it was kind of cool, tbh.

not sure if I’m too old, too young or too poor

It was shut down in…no. 2017 was not 7 years ago. No.

Thirdroom vr / avatar space plus Fediverse mail?

nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 21 Nov 14:43 collapse

Would this just be federated VR Chat or amnI forgetting something the mii versr thing had?
