Little8Lost@lemmy.world on 10 May 21:42 next collapse

never managed to play it
i found a PC CD in a box n the street and wanted to play it
While waiting at school to go home i managed to go on a PC and read about some map because i wanted to make myself familiar with it

But somehow later the install did somehow not work ;.;
Still fond of the knowledge i gained

so still good memories even without playing

It’s Jimmy Patterson!

Wasn’t this the one that started with D day and storming the beach? I remember being blown away by how good it looked, which I’m sure would not be the case today!

Marafon@sh.itjust.works on 10 May 22:59 next collapse

Yes! This game was amazing at the time. Storming Normandy and a later mission on German u boat are both core memories for me. And I can confirm (though this was almost 10 years ago now, so it’s probably worse still) graphics do not hold up today at all but I remember still liking the actual gameplay still. Might try to spin that up in an emulator sometime for shits and gigs. Thanks for the blast from the past OP.

cfi@lemmy.world on 11 May 01:27 next collapse

Sounds like you’re thinking of Frontline.

MOH1 starts with you parachuting into France

Marafon@sh.itjust.works on 11 May 02:48 collapse

I am absolutely thinking of Frontline! Thanks for setting me straight!

EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world on 11 May 02:19 collapse

No, you’re thinking of Medal of Honor Allied Assault.

This is the PS1 game.

cfi@lemmy.world on 11 May 01:28 collapse

Frontline and Allied Assault started with D-Day. MOH:AA was PC only though

HeyJoe@lemmy.world on 11 May 01:47 collapse

Thabk you! It was Frontline! I just went and looked. I guess I never played the original.

I played this on Steam Deck last year. Great game for its time.

EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world on 11 May 02:20 collapse

Does the Steam deck have a PS1 emulator?

bdonvr@thelemmy.club on 11 May 03:04 next collapse

The Steam Deck is basically a laptop in the shape of a gaming handheld. You can install any PC software you want right out of the box.

ms_lane@lemmy.world on 11 May 03:25 collapse

They’re being snarky, but the PSX game is different to game released on PC.

DosDude@retrolemmy.com on 11 May 08:12 collapse

You can still install any software, including emulators.

imecth@fedia.io on 11 May 11:12 collapse

The steam deck is just a small pc running Linux, so yes.

thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works on 11 May 01:27 next collapse

Not sure if this had the same campaign as the PC release (ah, the good ol’ days where games on different platforms could be completely different); but both Medal of Honor and the very first Call of Duty were formative FPS experiences for me.

EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world on 11 May 02:22 next collapse

Naw, this and the PC were different.

gurnu@lemmy.world on 11 May 06:38 collapse

It’s a different game, you’re thinking of the sequel MoH: Allied Assault

thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works on 11 May 10:00 collapse

The moment you named the subtitle (Allied Assault), you hit the nail on the head!

WOW, I never realised that the series began on the PS1 - or that Allied Assault was the THIRD entry in the series! I guess I’ll have to add both PS1 entries to my hunt list.

halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world on 11 May 03:29 next collapse

My strongest memory of Medal Of Honor is the undercover missions. Flipping the ID badge out over and over again like an idiot because the animation was funny.

tacosanonymous@lemm.ee on 11 May 04:56 next collapse

I can’t be sure it’s from this game as I played it 100 years ago, but

There was a mission where you’re in a German base. You’re just fucking their shit up and they start saying weird shit over the PA like, “Surrender now and you vill be treated vith charity und kindness.”

I thought it was hilarious.

altkey@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 11 May 06:13 next collapse

Awful tanky controls (understandable) didn’t stop me from getting 100% genitals shots in some of it’s missions. Local deathmatch was kinda better because both of you struggled with them. 7\10 for me as a kid, but if I’d play it now as it was back then, I’d quickly drop it in favor of something with a third person perspective. It wasn’t just there yet, and devs did the best they could.

blueamigafan@lemmy.world on 11 May 06:16 next collapse

The game that got me into dual stick controls and first person shooters in general, absolutely loved this game.
