So you need to maintain an online membership to retain access to these games, right?

You will own nothing and be happy, I guess.

And they’ll only port like 6 games, ever.

Drip fed over the course of several years.

And the game you specifically wanted to play? It’s one of the last ones to be dropped.

Same as the current Switch online, Microsoft’s game pass, and whatever Sony offers then?

ChickenAndRice@sh.itjust.works on 03 Apr 15:53 collapse

Yes. Does that refute my point?

Apologies if I’m coming off too grumpy, I’ve just seen a hundred similar comments over the last 24 hours from people outraged that a company known for unfriendly practices in an industry full of other companies known for unfriendly business practices have continued doing the same unfriendly business practices that are already happening everywhere.

Got it. No worries, I apologize if I came across as grumpy as well. For what it’s worth, there were a few things I liked from the direct (Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, and 3 seconds of Silk Song).

I’ve been incredibly happy lately dumping my GameCube/Wii games (using a softmodded Wii) and running them on PC with Dolphin. Perfectly legit way of playing games I already own, no matter what Nintendo says, and this is also a way to futureproof my GC/Wii collection the way I can actually trust.

I’m sceptical about how close to Dolphin the official emulation experience on Switch will be able to reach. Based on the N64 debacle, I don’t have massively high hopes. Either way, wouldn’t be paying extra.

It being exclusive to Switch 2 is kind of lame. It’ll be a feature of a subscription you can’t use unless you find and purchase new hardware. And most games probably won’t play well unless you purchase the Switch GameCube controller which will be constantly out of stock like the n64 controller.
