I picked up Total War: WARHAMMER III and Pennon and Battle, both strategy games. I’m thinking of getting Baldur’s Gate 3 as well. This should keep me busy for a while. My holiday plan is to stay home and game!

Divinity 2: Original Sin, because I’m 30hrs into BG3 and it’s really good
The beginning of D:OS2 felt like a cheat code to get more BG3 after I’d already finished BG3, but as time went on, I found that everything from RPG systems to pacing of combat/non-combat is leagues better in BG3, to say nothing of the production value that’s obviously better in BG3. Still a good game, but the improvement between each of their RPGs is immense.
I have to say I very much prefer the combat system in OS as it feels much more natural and less restrictive than the DnD combat in BG3. Of course the latter has far more content, but I’m looking forward to Larian’s next game where they can finally go wild again and do things they want exactly the way they want.
I felt far more restricted by D:OS2’s armor system. Freeform classes sound great on paper, but it also means you kind of naturally end up at a spot where you’ve got everything instead of making meaningfully difficult choices in classes or multiclassing. Learning abilities from books leads to a lot of money bottlenecks and leveling decisions that I didn’t care for. The way that the combat usually doesn’t have any chance to hit, but then does very occasionally, makes missing an attack feel like bullshit rather than a calculated risk. I’m also looking forward to whatever they do next, maybe even a sci-fi interstellar RPG, but I hope they don’t go back to the Divinity well too often for RPG mechanics.
Laughs in Thievery Skill
I envy you. I’ve got 1400 hours in Bg3. I love the game but i wish i could forget it to play it fresh again.
D:OS2 is one of the very few games that made me cry with the emotions I had for my characters. I hope you like it, great game.
Everspace for 99 Cents. :)
Same, not tried it yet
It’s great.
Game was hard for me to get into but once it clicked, it was awesome
An excellent choice, and the sequel is also great, although the gameplay is very different.
A bunch of EA games they‘re practically giving away considering the 90% discounts (Mass Effect etc.), and a bunch of indie puzzle games (Cats Organized Neatly etc.) as well as some steeply discounted Devolver Digital games (Hotline Miami 2 etc.).
I think I paid the price of one full price game (70 bucks nowadays) for like 20+ titles, but also yet again lost the battle of the ratio of games purchased vs games played this year… Damn you, Gaben!
Now I‘ll just wait for Monster Hunter Wilds which is easily my most anticipated game at the moment and probably the first triple-A game I‘ll be getting on launch since Elden Ring.
.
Same here.
FYI, Monster Hunter Wilds is available on Green Man Gaming and Fanatical for -18%, taking its price down to a normal triple A price of 57€.
Even cheaper if you have max discount at Humble.
I got 30XX and it’s been a blast so far. Probably gonna keep me busy for a while.
Good choice! Been a fan of that one since the Next Fest demo. It’s changed a lot since then.
I didn’t pick up any of the deep discount items but I did pick up a few items on my wishlist. I picked up Mouthwashing, WitchSpring R, Little Kitty Big City, the Nonory game collection and Okami HD. I already have the last two but I wanted them in the Steam library so I can play them on my deck.
And I gifted Freedom Planet 2 to a friend.
The Winter Sale isn’t over until January 2nd, so I might buy some more games before it ends. Problem is, I own most of the games on the Steam front page, so finding new and interesting games is getting difficult.
This. I feel totally underwhelmed by the sale this year because everything on the front page I already either own or have no interest in. I know the discovery queue exists, but it primarily tries to feed me the same jank I already know exists.
Pain.
I have absolutely no idea what it’s about, but it’s only $2 (90% off) and I’m a sucker for steep deals, so I couldn’t pass it up.
It’s not fear Effect that’s for sure. You’re better off spending the time emulating (since they are hella expensive physical) Fear Effect 1 and 2: Double Helix.
Resident evil camera angle and gameplay but with super spy lesbians
I still haven’t worked my way through the deals I got during last year’s sales, and despite that I bought another dozen games on GOG this black week. So I’m trying to stay away from the Steam winter sale this year lest my backlog becomes such a behemoth it gives me uncontrollable anxiety.
Caravan Sand Witch
I got Life is Strange: Double Exposure. It was meh. Not super bad but had enough bugs to push it in that direction.
After that I played The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow which was phenomenal.
Worshippers of Cthulhu
Wanted to play It Takes Two with my gf when it launched. Hoping to convince her now that she’s my wife
Oh It Takes Two is a good one! Played it with my partner a while back and had a great time!
It Takes Two is an amazing couples game that my girlfriend refuses to play again because of one scene lol
That damned elephant?
Aye, that’s the one.
This is my favorite game ever!!! Enjoy the experience.
Played it with my wife. We both agreed the gameplay is great but the story is awful. We disagreed that they should stay together in the end.
I haven’t bought anything. We’ve still got another week to go though, so I might pick up something. I’m a patient gamer so I’m still waiting for Cyberpunk and expansion to come down in price. Otherwise there isn’t a whole lot that interests me right now.
I’m mostly waiting on updates for a few games I already own: Balatro is getting a big update in the new year, Enshrouded, Against the Storm, and Timberborn. I should get back in to BG3 too. I bought it on release and put 20 hours in and then just… stopped playing.
I will vouch that even without the Phantom Liberty expansion Cyberpunk 2077 is fantastic. Phantom Liberty is awesome though, the story is intriguing and the new area is really well done. Everytime I visit Dogtown in that game I’m always like “damn this place is a fucking trash warzone,” the devs really nailed the vibes.
Anyways absolutely amazing game, and it’s half off it probably won’t go below half off for another year I’m guessing. Like you, I got into it after some major updates so I didn’t experience all the crap at release - to me the game is a masterpiece.
lockdown protocol and astroneer is pretty solid
Firewatch
I picked that up too and the first 5 minutes I was not prepared for.
I played it yesterday for the first time and i was having a mental crisis with those initial choices
BG3
I wish I could play through it again with fresh eyes. I’ve played through it 3 times. Enjoy.
I don’t remember if it was on sale, but I got 10 Dead Doves on a whim and I’m not dissapointed so far.
Dread Delusion and Lunacid. Also thinking of finally picking up Factorio
I always read someone talking about picking up Factorio like they are they are casually announcing they are starting experimenting with narcotics. Have fun! Make a plan to quit before it breaks up your family.
I tried the demo and had an “uh oh I really like this” moment
Yeah I’m fully addicted
Welcome friend
Lunacid! I forgot how excited I was for that to come out. Swooping in to snag it now, thanks
Picayune Dreams! A “vampire survivors” -like as if you are schizophrenic and on acid simultaneously. A great $3
Great game
Neva and Plucky Squire. Oh and Islets.
Skyrim VR! Just got a headset and it’s neat!
a few games i pirated earlier in the year, heh, and Pathologic 2, Lunacid (as of a few seconds ago), Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 (to check out the openrct2 mod), dwarf fortress, & Odallus the Dark Call.
Wayfinder, Gothic and Blades of Time so far.
Stardew Valley and Cyberpunk. Never played either one, but I’m starting with Stardew
Really really wanted to like Stardew, but oh my god, so much walking around! Could’ve really done with an ebike
You can get a horse and there are lot’s of QoL mods for the game
I wish I could play Cyberpunk for the first time again. Enjoy! Did you see the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners? Would highly recommend.
Some friends and I gift each other some games each year, and I got Cyberpunk. I’ll wait for the new GPU releases before I play it though, since I want to check it out with path tracing.
Also, some Rogue-likes. The latest Vampire Survivors DLC, Bloodshed, and AK-xolotl.
Cyberpunk with full path tracing is still one of the prettiest games out there. And I also think - in its post 2.0 state - that it’s just a very good game too. I recommend the Ultra+ mod to squeeze out even more performance and visual fidelity from the engine.
Which rogue-likes?
The ones I mentioned directly afterward, Vampire Survivors DLC, Bloodshed, AK-xolotl.
I like boomer shooters and immersive sims, so I picked up Selaco and Fallen Aces. Both are good so far. Selaco has some maze-like levels that can be a bit annoying, but the gunplay is very fun and the level of polish and detail is very high. Fallen Aces is awesome for the amount of ways it gives you to deal with the goons.
I got Gelatine after forgetting about it being in my wishlist for half a year
Bustafellows (95% sale). I have a huge backlog of !otomegames@ani.social to play, and Bustafellows is not on it. But it was also like $2 so… worst comes to worst, I play the game some day, hate it, and my purchase serves to signal “hey, English-speaking ladies who do not live in Japan also like otome games, localizing them is a good business choice”. Which means more otome for me! I have heard of so many Japan-only games that sound so cool but also I cannot play them because I won’t understand a damn thing the characters say, and they are usually super story-based.
The Magic Circle. I forget what recommendation list I saw it on to be honest, but it still seems to hold up as something I would like and think is cool.
I like !tycoon@lemmy.world games, so I was going to grab Parkitect, saw it in a bundle with more tycoon games, grabbed the bundle to also collect Project Hospital and Game Dev Tycoon. (I already had Parkasaurus.)
I also like automation games. I think its community might be on a dead instance… maybe I’ll make a new one. Finally grabbed myself Factorio (will never be on sale) along with Satisfactory (finally out of Early Access. I will never buy an EA game, I will always wait for it to exit EA).
Finally, Sun Haven. Stardew Valley fan, from what I have seen of SH it seems like something I’d like, and price dropped.
Aside from Factorio, everything I grabbed was on sale. Aside from Satisfactory, all the sales were 50% or more.
Might get more. We will see.
I’ve been playing Parkitect over the last months, it’s pretty fun! Usually I don’t stick with Tycoon games for long, but I did >10 campaign levels there.
Only bummer is that the tooling around blueprints is pretty underdeveloped (can’t sort/tag them, very inflexible), and it gets tiring to recreate all the basic decorations around food courts etc.
I don’t use steam too much, but I did get Minishoot Adventures, and it’s excellent.
It’s like if Zelda was a bullet hell. The base difficulty isn’t too hard, but it’s challenging enough. And you get to explore and do dungeons. It’s really fun.
Thanks for the recommendation! I hadn’t heard of it before but bought it on sale today. Looks pretty good and I appreciate they have options for people who suck at bullet hell games 😆
You’re welcome!
When you die in this game there’s no real penalty other than going back to the last checkpoint. So even if you leveled up or something you keep that, you just might go back a few screens. It’s great!
Oh that sounds right up my alley! Looking forward to this on the Deck
It’ll be perfect on that!
Finally playing Battlefield 1 and Battlefront 1, cause $3 is a good price to wait for. Only for the single player. I don’t care about multi-player. Streamed from my PC to Steam Deck is great.
Also went for BG1! Seemed like a really good deal.
Newest creaper world
Did they release a fifth installment?
store.steampowered.com/app/…/Creeper_World_IXE/
I’ve watched a couple gameplay videos by the dev and it looks good.
I bought it and I’m a bit disappointed, it scratches the creeper itch a bit but it kinda does away with the creeper world formula of making massive bases
Thaumaturge. Very atmospheric I think. Also, I think the setting is quite fresh, and I think that should be rewarded.
The talos principle 1 & 2. Playing through 1 now, and it’s excellent. Some of the puzzles are complex, but most can be solved in 5-10 minutes and give a nice “ah-ha!” moment. It reminds me of portal 2, but with a heavier and more ambiguous story about the nature of life and consciousness. Highly recommended.
Also been playing some Dome keeper and Peglin. Both also excellent in their own ways.
Both Talos Principle games are a treat. Really love the philosophy and story mixed in between the puzzles. Enjoy!
Noita!
Also the Dead Cells DLCs.
Noita is easily the best game released in few years, great buy!
I personally grabbed quite few beers
Assassins Creed Odyssey and Fields of Mistrial.
Wasn’t ajlot i wanted that i didnt already have.
Nothing. It was a difficult choice, but it was a necessary sacrifice in favor of the games, collecting dust in my library :*-)
I ended up getting Metal Gear Rising: Revengence, Sonic Adventure 2, Prey, Daemon X Machina, and Dragon Age 2. I have no regrets in my eclectic sale impulses hahaha
Dragon Age 2 is a bit ooof. Excellent combat, but the story and especially the scenery… you revisit the same parts of town and the same dungeon over and over and over.
da 2’s gameplay is not the best for sure, i think even inquistion might have been a bit more fun to play, but in terms of the story, look i may have just been really high, but i have never cried actual tears like that twice, like the end and then the dlc, idk but i really felt connected to my hawke more than any other character except well, my city elf from origins, origins is def the best of the three hands down, but da:kirkwall had an excellent story that i understand why people didn’t like twist there, but it just felt so right for the story i played, i loved it
DA2 has a solid story and very well written companions. I can understand it is too different from the first game for the fans of DA:O. Full disclosure; I didn’t know there was a prior game and DA2 was my entry to the franchise and I love it to pieces. After playing DA:O, it made Hawke’s story even more meaningful to me, since Hawke was one of many refugees who just did everything in their power to keep their family alive and well. We played through seven years of that struggle. It’s a pretty special game to me.
Veilguard marked a new low in every game aspect of a DA game, so I now consider DA2 a masterpiece, considering it was developed in just 2 years. After the empty world of DA:I, I’ve come to realize, I’ll take reused assets with well written stories and characters any day.
DA:I companions were well written mostly, but there were so many of them and I guess I have a bandwidth of how many companions I’ll care about in a game and that’s not many (cue Iron Bull betrayal because I forgot to complete his companion quests)
I took Age4 Sultans Ascend DLC and Cossacks 3 in previous sale before winter because I ended up with a bit more money. Somehow I didn’t spent much money as usual in October, cook food on my own instead of buying cooked food.
I don’t really have any other wishlist now. Instead I really want to make my own rts game but I have not been able to be productive nor playing Cossacks 3. But I did spent a bit more time with Age4.
Spiritfarer: Farewell edition, Celeste and Stardew valley.
Tactical Breach Wizards. It’s a nice little puzzle game with some dry humor that ive actually chuckled too a few times. Its a lot of fun so far.
Ara History Untold (a risky bet), Dustgrave, Errannorth Renaissance, and… back to playing Warframe!
Finally got Tunic. I’m pretty happy 6 h in!
Same. That and Pizza Tower.
I got
Actually nothing this time. I got back into Elite Dangerous hard and play it pretty much every minute of my gaming time currently.
I recently learned about “From the depths” because of Martincintopants Video about it. Yesterday evening I saw, that it was 50% off and bought it immediately.
I bought Reka and Baldurs Gate 3, haven’t played BG3 yet but Reka is fun! It’s buggy so I’m holding off on playing more until it’s a bit more stable but I’m excited. Been playing a bit of my backlog though before jumping into BG3.
Highly recommend using cream installer or some other dlc grabber, I think it runs for like $500 if you buy all the dlc.
Outpost Infinity, Executive Assault and something that was cheap and on my wishlist for a long time, totalling BRL 89 (~15 dollars)
Nothing. Everything its too expensive in argentina now
.
I don’t know whether I have the original or remaster, but I personally believe New Super Lucky’s Tale is a pretty fun game.
I misread that as enter the gungeon and got confused. But yeah exit the gungeon is a mobile game so it’s mid to low tier.
Grabbed the mass effect series for under a fiver. Played for a few hours and realized I was not enjoying it at all.
In total, the only 2 games I’ve gotten that I know we’re part of the sail were Sonic Origins (with DLC) and Sonic Mania (with DLC). Would be playing them more if I wasn’t having to message Steam back and forth trying to get an issue with my deck fixed, though.
Covid.
Oooh so retro
I’m in great pain lol
I bought a few, but the one that got me was Microsoft flight simulator 2020. It looks amazing in VR.
I got:
Saints Row 2022 Not actually that bad honestly. I think we were too harsh on them. It’s still fun, the characters are likeable, and it’s got all the stuff you expect for a saints row game.
CP Phantom Liberty Not gonna be able to get this played for a bit but I’m hopeful.
Anemoiapolis I like backrooms and I got Pools a few weeks ago but got kind of bored so hopefully this one is better since it has actual puzzles.
I’m spoilering these. You know what that means. Don’t fucking @ me.
spoiler
Mage Kanade’s Futanari Dungeon Quest Midnight Castle Succubus Tower and Sword: Succubus These last two are part of a series, and I already played Castle in the Clouds. Even without the porn it’s still a competent side scroller action platformer so I have good hopes for these two.
Might get more idk.
Lots of CRPG and TRPG. A few experimental indie RTS. And a few indie auto-battlers. Plus a few casual co-op shooters. Oh, and some indie horror as well.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned Caves of Qud or Path of Achra (I got them both). Aren’t we hipster enough?
