Today’s game is The Last of Us Part 2. I… probably need to stop buying and picking up games. This is what? The 5th new game i picked up? In my defense though, it was cheaper than i expected and i got paid early than i thought. At this point i think i need to start cutting things loose and go back later. We did finish Halo 4 tonight though, so at least i finished one game.

Part II feels a lot more lively than the first one. I have to imagine it’s partly because the first one was a remake, so not fully original. But like, Ellie’s reaction here to being pelted with a snowball feels very lively. I hadn’t realized it used the same engine as Part 1’s remake either, which i both like and don’t like. It’s familiar, but damn, it’s fun seeing the differences in engines between sequels and i feel like a new engine could breed creativity.

I had just left Jackson before i stopped today, but damn the place feels so lively. Something about it feels far more bustling than anything seen in the first. And the snow? Perfect. Snow in games is a surefire way to get me on board with it. I love a good snow in games.

Not even 10 minutes in and i already like Jesse here too. I’m hoping he doesnt turn into a villain or something, because i really like him. He’s the kind of snark i like in a character.

Ellie’s room also had a PS3 in it, which, awesome. I like that they kept that consistency with the first game. They could have very easily put a PS5 in there as advertisement and i feel like they could have gotten away with it. Even cooler is that it had Uncharted there in the game pile though. It’s awesome seeing Naughty Dog showcase their library like this.

I’m legit so excited to play through this. I know reactions are mixed, but the First one left me wanting to see where this goes so i’m excited. I wasn’t expecting to pick this up for a while.

This is one of those games I wish I could erase from my brain so I could experience it for the first time again, enjoy it!

That’s how I feel about the first one. Not to compare them to each other, but I’m really hoping it elicits the same feelings

I liked the story of the first one better (i’ve got some nostalgia goggles on it tho) and the mechanics of the second one better, but loved them both.

Definitely in the same boat. I loved the first one storywise, but damn, the second one’s gameplay is awesome. Something about it feels far more expressive and natural. I got to Seattle today and it’s so damn cool having that big open space

My husband is playing the chronological version right now and literally finished this part when I scrolled past your post. He played this game when it first came out; we stayed up all weekend to finish.

I saw the chronological version and almost played that but decided not to after seeing the warning to play the main campaign first. I knew it had the dual characters and thought maybe it was like an Alan Wake 2 Situation

The chronological version is definitely better on later playthroughs. The gameplay and story work best in the original version. The chronological story is just interesting to see what information the characters are working with in later scenes and to see some parallels.

Damn, I remember asking you whether you’d play it like 2-3 weeks ago, and here you go. I look forward to your updates as you go through this game!

MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world on 14 Aug 18:31 collapse

I remember you asking. It’s fun seeing familiar faces.

I’m excited too play though! I like to give games a try myself and not just take popular consensus on them (assuming the games are morally just ofc) and I wanted to try this. The consensus seems to be all over the place because I see people saying either it was really good Or it was the worst thing ever. I’m excited though to try it

If i wasn’t on PC i’d actually look into my library for games because they have a good selection. Unfortunately my Xbox has been stolen by my siblings and is enjoying it’s retirement in the living room, my Switch decided it didn’t want to be here anymore and just… let the battery go out and somehow the heatsink oxidized (though, as much as i disagree with the Switch 2’s price point, i’m looking into one since for me it’d be a Switch 1 + a 100$ investment for a new system. Plus im fortunate enough to be in a situation where i can afford one and let my friends try it so they can decide for themselves), and i haven’t really had an interest in a PS5.

For the brief moment i had the consoles though, the library was a godsend. I wish more people took advantage of them because they’re one of the most important public resources around i’d say
