“It was just Terry because he kept stealing pens from the supply closet for his own personal use.”

Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world on 04 Sep 20:46 collapse

20 years ago I had a boss that always held his pens in his mouth.

So one day, when I was the only guy in the office, I took all his pens, and one by one stuck them up my butt.

Then I put them back in his cup.

Varying9125@lemmy.world on 04 Sep 20:47 next collapse

are you familiar with ass pennies?

InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world on 04 Sep 21:29 next collapse

Wtf

CatsGoMOW@lemmy.world on 04 Sep 21:49 next collapse

Bender bit a poo penny!

mojofrododojo@lemmy.world on 06 Sep 07:26 collapse

ALL OF YOU! EACH ONE OF YOU HAS HAD MY FILTHY ASS PENNIES!

now that’s self confidence.

Aielman15@lemmy.world on 04 Sep 21:04 next collapse

What did your boss do to deserve this?

I mean, what specifically?

lagoon8622@sh.itjust.works on 04 Sep 21:12 collapse

He held his pen in his mouth 🤬🤬

Anyone actually playing 7? I know of no one personally, and I’ve played them all religiously

warm@kbin.earth on 04 Sep 21:25 next collapse

Nah, 5 is still the goat.

zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com on 05 Sep 08:16 collapse

Yeah they lost me on 6 and 7 looks to go even further in that direction

Justas@sh.itjust.works on 04 Sep 21:37 next collapse

Nah, 4 is still the best.

comador@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 06:12 collapse

Beyond the Sword with Leonard Nemoy narrating of course.

Justas@sh.itjust.works on 05 Sep 07:03 collapse

There are also a bunch of mods, including the total conversion ones.

BombOmOm@lemmy.world on 04 Sep 21:39 next collapse

Naw, 5 and 6 are where it is at.

Nelots@piefed.zip on 04 Sep 21:56 next collapse

Nah, 2 was the series peak.

iMastari@lemmy.world on 04 Sep 22:03 next collapse

Naw, 1 was the GOAT. The full game, no DLC, one price.

That’s about as expected. As a big fan of civ, it just looked like a worse version of 6, which was a worse version of 5.

Only reason for the bigger playercount of 6 is because of Sean Bean’s incredible narration.

brucethemoose@lemmy.world on 04 Sep 22:26 next collapse

I bet proportionally more DRM-free buyers play 5 and 4 too.

SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works on 04 Sep 23:06 collapse

Just want a version that is strategic-view only

warm@kbin.earth on 05 Sep 00:17 collapse

You can play Unciv I guess, I don't see why you would want a strategic view only though? Nothing stopping you just using that mode exclusively yourself.

SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works on 05 Sep 00:29 collapse

It’s because my computer is old

warm@kbin.earth on 05 Sep 00:38 collapse

I think you can enable it as the default mode and then it will load the game quicker? Definitely checkout Unciv though if you haven't already!

SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works on 05 Sep 03:01 collapse

UnCiv is honestly wicked, it deserves a lot more limelight than it gets

pycorax@sh.itjust.works on 05 Sep 01:36 collapse

Honestly that’s just how Civ has been for the past few releases, most people don’t get it until the typical set of 2 major expansion packs come out and eventually go on sale. The base price of the full package has always been crazy high.

brucethemoose@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 02:59 collapse

We will see. 'Cause for all Civ 6’s (and every Civ’s) controversy, this feels different… It’s like people have forgotten about 7.

AmbiguousProps@lemmy.today on 04 Sep 22:16 next collapse

Nah, I didn’t even bother. I only play 5 & 6.

CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml on 04 Sep 22:38 next collapse

I played through exactly one full game, and it just felt… pointless, I guess? Like I was just clicking through turns to get to the end and none of it mattered. Then it told me I’d lost and was like “K” and then played Civ VI for a bit.

BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world on 04 Sep 22:54 next collapse

It shipped with Denuvo and I don’t pay for malware. It’s the first Civ game I haven’t bought at launch. I’m including the original.

Ugurcan@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 05:20 collapse

It doesn’t have Hot Seat either. I instantly refunded when I realized that. How the hell a Civ game have multiplayer but not hot seat?

Prathas@lemmy.zip on 05 Sep 07:03 collapse

Might it get added later, hopefully?

Ugurcan@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 07:15 collapse

I don’t buy promises anymore, sorry.

Bademantel@lemmy.world on 04 Sep 23:17 next collapse

I mean why play an unfinished game? The radical changes sound interesting to me but it needs at least two add-ons to flourish, the same old story as with 5 and 6. I can wait and pick up the complete experience for half the price if that ever sees the light of day after the layoffs.

EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 03:01 next collapse

Well they removed the ability to play as “A civilization” in the game called “Civilization” so yeah everyone I know has swore off it.

lmagitem@lemmy.zip on 05 Sep 07:21 next collapse

Yes and no. If you want to play China you can play as the various chinese incarnations from beginning to end.

It only works with China for some mysterious reason though.

Cornelius_Wangenheim@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 11:11 collapse

It still amazes me they took the worst feature from Humankind and somehow made it worse.

Walk_blesseD@piefed.blahaj.zone on 05 Sep 04:48 next collapse

Yeah, I like it. It's definitely an unfinished product and lacking a lot of content and polish atm, but it's got the bones of a good game. Absolutely not worth the current asking price tho

ayyy@sh.itjust.works on 05 Sep 18:18 collapse

I gave up after the 20th bug I encountered. (Yes I kept track.) It’s a shame because I actually liked the eras system.

I have a friend who was laid off from there today. Definitely feel bad for them.

SereneSadie@lemmy.myserv.one on 05 Sep 02:03 next collapse

Stop supporting 2K shit.

I’ve been saying this for years. And nobody listens.

TipRing@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 03:37 next collapse

I listened. I bought Civ6, hated it, didn’t get any of the predatory DLC and went back to Civ4. Didn’t give Civ7 so much as a glance. Sad to hear it went downhill from 6 though.

Bonesince1997@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 03:41 next collapse

I think some of the DLC is what made Civ6 eventually tolerable. But that’s already a bad sign.

TipRing@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 03:54 collapse

It is a Civ tradition, BotS made Civ4 amazing, but I’d argue the base game was solid and just needed some mechanical polish.

Lumisal@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 08:40 collapse

Yup, without Luigi there to kill the bugs it’s been pretty tough I suppose.

comador@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 06:09 collapse

This. Fuck 2K Games, quit buying their shitty EA level titles and move on.

Game devs really have to keep their CVs ready at anytime given how uncertain their jobs are.

SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world on 06 Sep 07:44 collapse

They are basically gig workers like in the film industry. This was always the case with QA jobs and low ranking artists, but nowadays it also happens to the other roles in a development project.

ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 08:29 next collapse

If you’re a game developer, it’s probably best to avoid big devs. Go indie instead.

mojofrododojo@lemmy.world on 06 Sep 07:30 collapse

I think every downturn in gaming history has led to explosions in indie dev studios and products.

this one feels a bit different; first time I’ve seen companies posting record profits and bragging about them, while laying devs off in absolute droves. it’s almost as if consolidating a billion competing IPs into a handful of publisher/owners who don’t really care about games per se, but see the enormous financial value in controlling the IP and production landscapes may have been a bad idea.

don’t get me wrong, someone comes along and offers me billions for my company, probably gonna take it, but you can see how it becomes reductive; and then the people calling the shots end up knowing very little about the actual mechanics of the industry… yeah we’re in for very fun times.

Indies will keep producing great stuff. Some of them will also get gobbled up. Support the rest please!

Dead_or_Alive@lemmy.world on 05 Sep 11:28 next collapse

I don’t buy civ games until they release all the DLC. Since CIV 5 it seems like they have released unfinished games that lack major game mechanics on launch and the game only gets finished through DLC.

Poor adoption and sales with CIV 7 is their own fault. They have conditioned the market to wait for the DLC.

Clbull@lemmy.world on 06 Sep 07:58 collapse

Firaxis are like the Bethesda of turn based strategy games. They release buggy jank and expect modders to fix it.

menjegfikk@lemmynsfw.com on 07 Sep 14:43 collapse

Guess that means no “play by cloud” mode 😢
