Today’s game is Dead Rising 2. I’ve had this in my library for a bit and with me still trying to debug whatever is going on with The Last of Us i had to get my Zombie fix somehow. I got this from a Humble Bundle at some point, so I decided to give this a try. And can i just say? Where the fuck has this game been all my life? There has been a Trashcan being thrown at zombies shaped hole in my heart that this game just filled. It takes itself so fucking seriously and then let’s me look like an utter fucking moron by making this guy do the stupidest shit imaginable. I stole a Wheelchair from a zombie pushing it and then proceeded to run everyone over with it. NO OTHER GAME LET’S ME FULFILL THIS ODDLY SPECIFIC FANTASY.

It’s a bit merciless with the save points, but i honestly had a lot of fun just browsing around the store. There was one i stopped by on my way back called In The Closet which caught me by surprise with that joke. I was going to stop by and look at what was in there but I was in the middle of an escort mission so i had to hurry to get this lady home.

And despite how stupid this game lets you be, it’s somehow the most serious thing ever too. The main character has to get Medicine for his daughter, and already i would be willing to protect this child with my life. This digital collection of polygons and classes is the most innocent thing ever and i refuse to let anything happen to it.

I mentioned rescuing a survivor, Denyce. I was initially hesitant to escort her home but i gave her a baseball bat and she did a pretty good job of fending for herself so i’m not too worried now. I do wish there was a run button but i can’t complain too much because i’d probably end up getting myself killed with it.

I ended off after delivering Denyce here safe and sound to the saferoom. This game is definitely a fun romp, i had to wait a bit though to get the Character’s daughter her medicine though and i wasn’t sure what to do with the time. I think i need to go back to this game at some point though, if only so i can throw benches at zombies.

I also found Kirby, the celebrity life style must have taken a toll on the poor guy, looks nothing like the games.

I slept on the dead rising series until the remake came out. Then I picked up the original, 2, and off the record stupid cheap. Had a blast going through them all!

All of them are fantastic games and it’s such a shame they killed the whole series with the 3rd game.

I’ve heard mixed things about the 3rd game. Is it a bad game or just a bad dead rising game?

I love the gameplay of Dead Rising, but the time limits and save point restrictions really do not mesh well with how I want to play it. The game has the perfect setup to be a sandbox where you could just fuck around with finding silly ways to kill zombies, but the time limits - even if they are as generous as people say - just give me constant anxiety and I can’t really relax and screw around with it like I’d want to.

That was my experience with it back when I played it.

Just made me feel like I was constantly taking too long, even if I wasn’t, and it just wasn’t much fun.

Seems like a cool game just couldn’t get into it.

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record did have a sandbox mode and in my opinion was the most fun game in the series. The original had an infinite time mode but you had to get the true ending I believe to unlock it

The lack of local coop was also a huge downside for me back in the day.

I’ve heard bits and pieces about the game over the years and isn’t there a sandbox mode for beating the game? Obviously not ideal, but still

The.zombie killing fun only gets better as you go on

It really does. It feels like each second is an escalation of how great it is
