PS4 had Twitter integration?

Man, everyday i’m more glad i stopped at the PS3.

MrMcGasion@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 02:09 next collapse

I think it’s just for media sharing, like posting screenshots and video clips.

can@sh.itjust.works on 07 Nov 2023 02:12 collapse

Even the switch had that.

snownyte@kbin.social on 07 Nov 2023 02:22 next collapse

Yeah because we've gotta share clips of what we play to several dozen fucking media places. I'm glad my better gaming days seemed to be resting at the PS2 era, didn't have all of this social media shit.

PieMePlenty@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 07:59 collapse

Man, Dirt 3 had YouTube integration and npcs telling you to ‘upload that sick trick to youtube’. A wild time.

Callie@pawb.social on 07 Nov 2023 10:48 collapse

That’s actually kinda neat, especially given how popular GoPro footage was at the time and like, stunts in general

henfredemars@infosec.pub on 07 Nov 2023 02:34 collapse

My wife and I share a PS4 and neither of us knew it had Twitter integration.

0110010001100010@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 01:48 next collapse

lol the PS4 and 5 had Twitter integration? Didn’t even know that was a thing and I’ve been a Playstation user since the PS2 and currently rock a PS5.

garretble@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 02:25 collapse

Never tried hitting that share button in eight years?

0110010001100010@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 02:31 next collapse

Nope, I’m pretty introverted and don’t really have friends, lol

garretble@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 04:34 collapse

Doesn’t mean you can’t save some fun photos for later. They save to your console by default; you don’t have to share them at all.

the16bitgamer@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 02:56 next collapse

Not the person you asked, but honestly it’s the most useless button on the controller. I hit it by accident, and want the menu to go away quicker than it took to load in.

alansuspect@aussie.zone on 07 Nov 2023 08:39 next collapse

I haven’t owned a PlayStation since the first one, there’s a dedicated Twitter button on the controller?

p5f20w18k@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 08:56 next collapse

No there’s a share button, it takes screenshots/videos and you can share them to certain platforms.

magic_lobster_party@kbin.social on 07 Nov 2023 09:43 next collapse

It even replaced the select button, which to be frank was also quite useless (but not as much).

MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works on 07 Nov 2023 09:57 collapse

Technically it didn’t replace the select button. The touch pad replaced the select button.

alansuspect@aussie.zone on 08 Nov 2023 00:49 collapse

Ah got it

the16bitgamer@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 11:18 collapse

It’s the “share button”. Apparently somewhere in there lets you post to a linked twitter account.

Katana314@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 15:43 collapse

I definitely see its use. Suppose you don’t consider yourself a content creator, but you’re playing GTAV and some absolutely hilarious one-in-a-million glitch happens where a ragdoll flips in JUST the right way. It’s good to have a fast button to be able to mark the recording for later. Could be that video would get to a million views, but only if you’re able to record it.

KnowledgeableNip@leminal.space on 07 Nov 2023 23:32 collapse

I’ve saved a few clips for this reason and I’d rather just go to the PS5 quick menu and open up the share screen from there. I don’t know why that wasn’t the option to begin with, are people saving clips frequently enough to require its own button?

Weird design choice.

vrighter@discuss.tchncs.de on 07 Nov 2023 05:12 collapse

nope, it’s a waste of a button. I hate that button with a passion.

garretble@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 15:03 collapse

Counterpoint: I really enjoy taking photos in games that have photo modes, and it’s a great button for that.

stardreamer@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 07 Nov 2023 02:36 next collapse

Am I the only idiot that read X as X11 then realized it was referring to Twitter?

Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social on 07 Nov 2023 02:37 collapse

No, the logo is basically identical

jacobaaron@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 02:44 next collapse

TIL the PS5 & 4 had Twitter integration lol

Callie@pawb.social on 07 Nov 2023 10:45 collapse

Iirc it was only used for uploading screenshots and videos captured on the consoles

Xanvial@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 10:58 collapse

Now it supports upload them to PS App, at least on ps5. Which is so much better

Callie@pawb.social on 07 Nov 2023 11:32 collapse

That’s sounds a lot more convenient

magnetosphere@kbin.social on 07 Nov 2023 04:26 next collapse

Good riddance.

breakfastmtn@lemmy.ca on 07 Nov 2023 06:00 next collapse

Burn baby burn

Rhoeri@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 11:08 next collapse

Good.

yamanii@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 12:01 next collapse

How will scrubquotesX get content now?

Kachilde@lemmy.world on 07 Nov 2023 22:28 next collapse

What are they going to replace it with? The X button is so iconic! … oh, gotta finish reading the headline before commenting.

yoz@aussie.zone on 07 Nov 2023 22:45 collapse

Who the fuck is using xitter on a ps5?
