[Spoiler] Day 394 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing
from MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world to games@lemmy.world on 15 Aug 10:14

edit: I’m really sorry, i did not mean to spoil that for everyone like i did. I’ve gone ahead and moved the spoiling screenshot into a spoiler block along with the spoiling segments and replaced it with one with a far less intrusive one. That’s my bad and I really should have been more observant and thoughtful of everyone else’s experiences.

For anyone else who is just now seeing this post, everything in that big block is major spoilers. I’ve moved it down there too rectify a mistake (hence this edit)

Spoilers

Today’s game is some more of The Last of Us Part II. And man, i knew Joel’s death was coming, down to the very moment it happened. And i still couldn’t accept it. The game does a really good job of making you grieve for Joel, because fuck, i want revenge now too. Even after it happened, i spent a good few minutes in denial. Fuck this game (in a good way). It’s so cruel making me sad like this. Really liking it though. Another thing i liked is the game letting you see Ellie mourning, and through that mourn yourself. It had me walk through Joel’s house and take a look at it all the stuff, and you end up getting Joel’s revolver and watch which I love. The game could have easily said “whelp, Ellie’s pissed, running away to Seattle” and let it end there. But instead we got one last goodbye to Joel in a way. We even got to see his Jacket one last time. I wish Ellie took it to add to her wardrobe, but also, understandably, Seattle can be hot as fuck sometimes. Still, it would have been nice. Another detail i kind of liked that i think helped me accept Joel’s death, was actually before. When Ellie and Dina are in the Weed Room, Ellie shows Dina her scar from being bitten, and Dina brushes that off as being just a joke before the game tosses you into action with Joel. In a way, to me, that kind of felt like the game nudging me away from Part I. It’s saying “Hey man, this isn’t Joel’s story anymore, this isn’t about Ellie’s immunity. Joel’s story is over, both metaphorically and literally. Now it’s about Ellie’s revenge”. I’m not very far in, so we’ll have to see if the immunity comes up again though.

I ended off for tonight in the big open Seattle area, which I love. I wish the first game had more big open areas like this. It’s so cool. I’ve been exploring first before continuing with the story, but i love it so far. I’m excited to pick it back up tomorrow.

Game is good. Great environmental storytelling, for sure. Can’t wait to hear what you think of the last act. It sure is something.

I’ve unfortunately had bits and pieces spoiled for me online with all the discourse about the game’s ending online (and the TV show’s launch helped kicked it back up a little too I think). But I am still excited to get to it. Games like this are my favorite so I’m excited

Personally, I don’t care about TLOU, but I don’t think you should be leading with a massive spoiler as the thumbnail. Others might give you a lot of shit for that.

ushmel@piefed.world on 15 Aug 14:48 next collapse

Games pretty old and it has a show about it too, but yeah. Big ass spoiler lol

MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world on 15 Aug 21:16 collapse

Yeah, I hadn’t even considered it with how prevalent it felt like his death was online when the game launched. I figured just everyone knew and it hadn’t really clicked “hey. This is still a massive spoiler”. It’s on me for not thinking that through

ObtuseDoorFrame@lemmy.zip on 15 Aug 13:52 next collapse

Maybe I’m the problem for clicking on a post about a game I haven’t played yet, but also maybe if you include a major spoiler as your second sentence, your first sentence should mention the incoming spoiler.

Just a suggestion.

Yes please this is common courtesy aaaaaaaaaaa (very upset)

MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world on 15 Aug 21:15 collapse

Yeah. That’s my bad. It was late and I wasn’t thinking and with how it felt like everyone online was talking about his death i figured everyone down the line now would know. That really is on me. My bad

ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works on 15 Aug 15:19 next collapse

Well my backlog is over five years old, so these spoilers right out the gate I guess lightened the list for me a bit.

RIP TLOU.

MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world on 15 Aug 21:13 collapse

I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to spoil it for you like that. I thought everyone knew with how prevalent it’s been online. It’s still definitely worth the experience I’d say though

Great job on working through your library. I managed to wait until the PC release and a sale before playing tlou2. What a gut punch right!?

It is so well put together, without spoilers, I struggled to play from anyone but Ellie’s perspective until the final act. Then I totally flipped.

Chill out Ellie.

I’d love to hear your thoughts after you get half way or even finish the game.
