I've been developing my indie horror game Abaddon for the past 3 years now, and it's finally coming to Steam! (store.steampowered.com)

If anyone here is into horror games it would be amazing if you guys can give it a look and consider wishlisting it as it helps me out a lot! I’d love to hear tips or opinions on the game page! Thank you ❤️🎮

Wishlisted, do you plan to support the SteamDeck?

FirsTimeDev@lemmy.world on 29 Jul 00:09 collapse

Thank you so much! I really want to, it depends on how hard it will be to do, but I will definitely give it a try 🙏🏽

I think you will be relieved at how easy it is. A lot of games are flawless on Deck without the developers even targetting Deck or linux at all, since Proton has gotten so good. Here’s Valve’s guideance: steamcommunity.com/groups/…/3001070242218057029

Thank you so much, porting to Mac is wayyyyy to difficult than it should be, regardless I will try to do it eventually.

Any AI?

FirsTimeDev@lemmy.world on 29 Jul 11:02 collapse

I did use some AI generated images that I’m currently getting them replaced, so basically there is some slight AI use, but there wont be there when the full game releases. 💪🏼

Dude it looks great! Congrats. How big is your dev team? I’ve always been curious about creating my own game.

Thank you so much man! We are 7 people working on Abaddon 😊

I looks great, not going to lie.

But...

This is more of a general question. I don't get why people are attracted to horror games (or movies). As a working father and husband with couple non-gaming hobbies, my computer time is limited and I only get to gaming late(ish) in the evening before bed time. With all the shit that today world offers IRL, playing stressful horror game isn't something I'd want. I'd much rather relax play something with simple mechanics or with very simple premise behind it, like e.g. wolfenstein: nazis are bad, you are good, shoot all the nazis, the end. It's just... my mind can't comprehend this. Who plays these games?

FirsTimeDev@lemmy.world on 29 Jul 11:14 collapse

I think for most it’s about escaping their own problems and see someone else’s wayyy worst problems. About horror games specifically, I always enjoyed the thrill of it, being sacred as hell, and full of adrenaline but yet I’m in the most safe place (my house) so I get to face fears / get scared but still know that I’m perfectly safe, there is something fun about it, hope that answered 😀

OK, makes sense. Even though it's definitely not my cup of tea. Thank you.
