Damn, GOG is based af

tomenzgg@midwest.social on 03 Aug 14:20 collapse

Keep in mind it’s the same company that tweeted a dog whistle to Gamer gate and had a few insensitive transphobic faux pas: polygon.com/…/gog-twitter-wontbeerased-hashtag/.

I could believe the latter ones were potentially accidental but I don’t know how tweeting the exact starting date of Gamer gate with the phrase “R.I.P games journalism” can be anything but intentional.

FrowingFostek@lemmy.world on 03 Aug 15:19 collapse

Maybe they’ve gotten better since then. I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

tomenzgg@midwest.social on 03 Aug 16:40 collapse

Yeah; that’s totally fair.

GriffinClaw@lemmy.zip on 02 Aug 08:18 next collapse

Bless you, GOG. If you werent so expensive in my country, Id completly port my Steam lib in a heartbeat.

Ima grab the titles at least :)

Anyone else having issues redeeming it? Hope I can nab them before the deadline.

Nevermind, I got it when I disabled my PiHole. 🤷

Tried multiple times on different devices, no luck

ThePancakeExperiment@feddit.org on 02 Aug 09:47 collapse

Can’t get it to work either, maybe some of the games are blocked in some regions?

bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de on 02 Aug 10:29 next collapse

Had trouble getting them from Germany. Had to VPN to the UK.

lepinkainen@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 12:18 next collapse

Looks like I have to renew my Mullvad sub for one month again 😀

Womble@piefed.world on 02 Aug 14:11 collapse

Thats pretty funny given the current "save the children" censorship in the uk that is going on.

regdog@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 11:16 next collapse

Did not work for me in Germany either. Had to VPN to Canada to claim it.

AgentRocket@feddit.org on 02 Aug 21:23 collapse

Yes. Germany for example requires a proper age verification with id, but since stores don’t want to implement that, they just block these games. At least GoG lets you buy them through a VPN. Steam is much more thorough and won’t let you buy them if the account has German payment info or a German address linked to it. You can create a second account with vpn and buy the games on that account using gift cards, but you can’t gift the games to your main account.

donuts@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 09:58 next collapse

I couldn’t redeem on my phone until I opened Firefox instead of embedded chrome and log into GoG before I could get past the damned Cloudflare hell

wagesj45@fedia.io on 02 Aug 18:32 collapse

I hate Cloudflare so much. It's getting to the point that some apps I use in browser will just stop working, and when I reload the tab to reset it, turns out Cloudflare was blocking the traffic until I do their stupidass human test.

RYS@lemmy.zip on 02 Aug 08:58 next collapse

RYS@lemmy.zip on 02 Aug 10:29 next collapse

Yeah, my hopes weren’t to high, but I’ll give it a try this weekend… just to support the cause, you know.

hisao@ani.social on 02 Aug 11:50 collapse

I think 4 of those games (including Postal) look very decent/promising, others either not my style or looking too generic/slop.

CallMeAnAI@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 15:05 collapse

I said mid, not terrible.

ogeist@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 19:08 collapse

I mean the real challenge is to play one handed

PunnyName@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 10:55 next collapse

Strange. I redeemed the code, it shows in my purchase history, but none of the games show up in my collection. Oh well.

Passerby6497@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 12:11 collapse

It says on the post-redeem page that it can take a while to show up

PunnyName@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 20:08 collapse

i now own a bunch of porn games cuz i wanted to try Postal 2 -_-

edit: it is thankfully possible to hide games from your library, tho unfortunately heroic games launcher does not care 😖

ToaofTime@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 02 Aug 11:12 next collapse

Uhh, yeah me too. And they used my credit card to sign up for porn. Smh, GOG

nfreak@lemmy.ml on 03 Aug 02:30 collapse

Same LOL, I just wanted to snag Postal 2 DRM-free. Oh well

blobchoice@feddit.uk on 02 Aug 12:47 next collapse

I have to say since this whole anti porn in games thing has happened, I’ve ironically exposed myself to more porn games.

Before I wouldn’t imagine playing the games. Ever since the itch unban, I’ve tried a few games on itch.io to see what the fuss was about and got absolutely hooked on Queens Brothel - to the point where I’ve paid for the full version on Patreon. And now I’ve got these games on my gog library.

If the Christian brothers and sisters at Collective Shout wanted less people exposed to porn games, lol. lmao even.

Deflated0ne@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 18:17 next collapse

RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 20:38 next collapse

So, there’s this game still on Steam called Slaves of Rome that is the definition of non-consentual NSFW games, and it’s also an open-world action RPG, so the format is very accessible and also not badly done for an indie. So, it has me very confused why it was spared.

InFerNo@lemmy.ml on 02 Aug 22:24 next collapse

Let’s not speak of it before it gets swept up

NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip on 03 Aug 01:40 collapse

Eh… I am not gonna protect games fundamentally about raping people. And would ask that you maybe not associate that with smut and art games.

lath@piefed.social on 03 Aug 08:47 collapse

Anything that praises the holy Roman empire gets an automatic pass.

brsrklf@jlai.lu on 03 Aug 10:46 collapse

Voltaire just got banned from Steam.

lath@piefed.social on 03 Aug 14:15 collapse

The vegan vampire? I can still see and buy it.

brsrklf@jlai.lu on 03 Aug 15:46 collapse

… How is that the name of an actual game?

Just in case, no, that was a joke about Voltaire, the philosopher.

The phrase “Holy Roman Empire” is most commonly used for the German empire that went from Charlemagne to 1800-ish (long after the fall of the “other” Roman Empire). Voltaire criticized the HRE of his time calling it “neither holy, nor Roman or an empire”.

This quote is kind of a meme among Crusader Kings players for example because HRE is kind of a pain in these games.

lath@piefed.social on 03 Aug 16:06 collapse

In the wide world of indies, no name is too weird to use.

I did think of Voltaire the person, but I wasn't aware of the Crusader Kings connection.

Katana314@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 20:33 next collapse

I think it’s de-emphasized because part of the GOG appeal is that you don’t need a launcher and can grab direct DRM free installers. The launcher just exists for convenience.

brucethemoose@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 20:44 next collapse

The link is in the webpage, but it might be bugged? It’s not visible in vanilla chrome or firefox for me (or maybe just not visible on linux).

…gog-statics.com/…/GOG_Galaxy_2.0.exe

That’s from the page’s source.

Faresh@lemmy.ml on 03 Aug 01:55 collapse

It’s not available for linux. That’s the problem.

Nico_198X@europe.pub on 03 Aug 06:21 next collapse

Yeah but it’s totally optionally, so in that case I don’t care much.

Wolf@lemmy.today on 03 Aug 12:00 collapse

Heroic Games Launcher ftw!

_cryptagion@quokk.au on 02 Aug 20:55 next collapse

The great thing about GOG is you don’t need the launcher, you can use a third party launcher like Heroic or just download the installers directly from the GOG website once you log in.

mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 02 Aug 21:09 collapse

Nico_198X@europe.pub on 03 Aug 06:58 collapse

Haha it’s a little fish weird! Postal 2 isn’t a porn game, but is ultraviolent and has been generating controversy for 20 years!

Still got it, Postal Guy

rozodru@lemmy.world on 03 Aug 11:38 next collapse

Free marketing for Running with Scissors.

I used to live in Tucson, I knew a couple guys at Running with Scissors and yeah this doesn’t surprise me. Dudes are pros at getting their names out there free of charge. When there’s any sort of controversy of even the slightest thing in the games industry they WILL try and slap Postal on it. it works. they’ve been around for like 30 years now and have made like what? 4 postal games? and then remastered the others a few times that they had other devs work on. Completely independent too. They’re not a huge company but everyone that works for them has been comfortable without much effort for some time now.

Nico_198X@europe.pub on 03 Aug 12:53 collapse

That is kind of amazing! Good for them for playing that hand well!

ThatGirlKylie@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 23:45 collapse

Please report back your findings troopers 🫡

Enkers@sh.itjust.works on 03 Aug 04:12 collapse

Just getting around to trying it now. Will update with further info.

Very first impressions:

Yep, its sexo pokemon snap! If you’re into furry or pokephilia, and enjoy photography, this’ll probably be a fun time. It seems like it is more anthro focused though, not that I’d be a good judge of any of this or anything. >_>;

Right off the bat, the walking animation is very janky, but otherwise it seems surprisingly polished. The tutorial is a bit info dumpy, but it’s not that overwhelming.

Just starting actual gameplay now.

Edit 1: Managed to soft lock myself on the very first quest. Got stuck in a tent flap. Lol. Fixed with a reload.

Edit 2: Now I can’t find this expedition log for the 2nd part of the first quest. This does not bode well. I swear I should work in QA, as I can’t find anyone who’s had this problem.

I’m giving up for tonight. It kinda feels like nobody play tested this.

NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip on 03 Aug 01:43 next collapse

Of the list, I would say Lust Theory is worth a look.

You are groundhogs daying through high school/college trying to bang every single woman in your life. Animations are… sufficient and I do kind of like that any of the more fucked up stuff is almost always followed up with “and then you were kicked so hard in the balls you died” although it would be nice if they weren’t critical path for progression. And it is pretty hilarious that the game lets you define your relationship to the various ladies you live with… but it is still pretty clearly coded for incest of some form which leads to hilarity like “It is so morally wrong that you are having sex with your Live In Janitor”… which I guess would actually be really morally wrong…

But yeah. Mostly the bundle is the bottom of the barrel. Or stuff that has been around so long it is mostly just a meme for how bad porn games are (house party).
