Steam had already shown its true face, itch.io and GOG are fighting censorship alone.

Boycott Steam.

They were not even willing to fight back with the power of 5% of their annual revenue.

Correct me if I’m wrong: they all complied because action from the payment processors was imminent, and GOG and Itch have both made public statements about next steps that Valve hasn’t, which doesn’t mean that Valve isn’t taking next steps. Did I miss anything?

hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 03:00 collapse

Yeah unlike other big companies, Valve still has some trust to rely on. Let’s wait for what they’re saying and doing first.

Also, the quickest path to success will always be to reignin the payment processors. Which should be a no-brainer anyway; they should have no influence on content decisions.

What are you on about? Valve removed content that was recently popularized and controversial becauze of its rapey and violent incest.

You can still find a plethora of NSFW,LGBTQIA+,Fauxcest, rapey, violent content on Steam… if you know where to look.

NSFW,LGBTQIA+,Fauxcest,rapey,violent content

With a username like yours I'd be really fucking careful about conflating those things. Then again, I don't go putting "88" in mine, so what do I know?

88th has been around longer than nazis, but then again… you see what you want to see because of your ignorance and I forgive you for that.

It's almost as though I said it's suspicious specifically because of the context you put yourself in by making that conflation.

Fiction is fiction.

You do understand that without payment processors they lose all revenue streams altogether, right? Like, none of us can buy games anymore.

The oligopoly in that industry is insane.

itch capitulated in like the worst way what do you mean. they nuked a bunch of stuff and stole money that they hadnt paid out to creators yet even for non-delisted games. itch is hardly “fighting censorship” in that regard. dont bother boycotting them or steam though. call visa and mastercard daily to pester them about their recent changes that have affected digital storefronts and dont let up until they reverse course. thats where your pressure will make a difference. three people refusing to buy from steam anymore will do nothing at all.

I mean, three people calling Mastercard will do nothing as well.
