Are you like fucking kidding me…? It’s been less than a month and there’s QA issues

kurcatovium@lemm.ee on 17 Jun 15:10 next collapse

Classic Nintendo

donuts@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 15:34 next collapse

There’s always a percentage of devices that will show defects, especially the launch wave. QA can never get 100% of units passed.

Does anyone remember the PS5 issues with the disc drive, rest mode, coil whine etc during launch?

Now if this turns into a pattern / widespread issue I’m ready to jump on the bandwagon, but this is not out of the ordinary.

E: typo

MrQuallzin@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 16:48 collapse

Exactly. We’re hearing about the edge cases so far, which there will ALWAYS be some for any product.

Not defending Nintendo here. I’d love to be playing the new Mario Kart, but not at those prices.

SolidShake@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 19:41 collapse

The new Mario kart is the same as the old Mario kart. Just play 8 if you want to play Mario kart lol.

iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works on 17 Jun 20:34 next collapse

What a silly statement. There are tons of new features, characters, and courses in World.

MrQuallzin@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 23:18 next collapse

That’s like telling me to not read sequels to books.

Just because it shares mechanics and characters does not make it the same game.

SolidShake@lemmy.world on 18 Jun 13:39 collapse

Huh? The person I responded to said they don’t have Mario kart world and don’t want to buy it for the price it’s being sold at. So i said play Mario kart 8 it’s the same game.

So yes. If you don’t own a sequel to a book and it costs too much, then just read the first book.

Robust_Mirror@aussie.zone on 18 Jun 05:15 next collapse

It’s different to the point I sometimes go back to 8 for the more traditional format. That isn’t something that has ever been the case for me across other mario kart games.

garretble@lemmy.world on 18 Jun 20:51 collapse

Kinda the best of both worlds if you have both games, really. MK8 had a ton of “traditional” tracks and MKW has a ton of new tracks.

That’s a lotta tracks, baby!

ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml on 18 Jun 13:24 collapse

For better or for worse, it’s actually quite different. Many people seem to actually prefer Mario Kart 8 lol

iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works on 17 Jun 16:39 next collapse

It’s not really too unusual for a launch as big as this to have some bad units slip through QA. If it’s a handful of people, I’d even say that’s pretty impressive. This starts to effect a large enough percentage and then you’ve got something worth getting upset about.

Robust_Mirror@aussie.zone on 18 Jun 05:19 collapse

Yeah this is like making out a monitor having a dead pixel is some huge scandal and discredit to that company.

catloaf@lemm.ee on 17 Jun 17:19 next collapse

Even with the vast majority of people having no issues, with millions sold, that’s still a good number of people just got a bad one. The article only reports two instances.

SolidShake@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 19:40 next collapse

It’s been less than a week my guy

BenjiRenji@feddit.org on 18 Jun 06:19 collapse

That’s why you never pre-order. Never. Still never.

DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 18 Jun 11:56 collapse

Exactly

Harlehatschi@lemmy.ml on 17 Jun 15:12 next collapse

Why did someone buy their shit?

DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 17 Jun 15:15 next collapse

“cause uh Nintendo and…Mario Kart World”…

Alk@sh.itjust.works on 17 Jun 15:16 next collapse

Mario kart.

Harlehatschi@lemmy.ml on 18 Jun 04:54 collapse

You could just emulate on a steam deck while having a bazillion other games available

Alk@sh.itjust.works on 18 Jun 05:02 next collapse

You can already do that for the switch 2?

Robust_Mirror@aussie.zone on 18 Jun 05:29 collapse

Definitely not.

Noite_Etion@lemmy.world on 18 Jun 14:16 collapse

How do you emulate a console on a device less powerful than the console you’re emulating?

Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 18 Jun 20:36 collapse

Wouldnt the S2 be at best equal to the SteamDeck in raw processing power?
Last I heard it has a 2h battery runtime for MK World. That’s less thn me emulating MK8D on a steamdeck at 2x the resolution and 60 FPS.

MyDarkestTimeline01@lemmynsfw.com on 17 Jun 15:18 next collapse

Because Nintendo jealously guards even the ideas that their IPs create. You just saw them go to the courts to make their patents be a little more vague just so they could try to take down Palworld. And they know that as long as they can corner the market on those specific experiences you’ll have to come back to them in order to get it. It’s very much like a drug dealer getting rid of other drug dealers that might come into their neighborhood so that the only drug is their drug and the only place to get it is through them.

SunshineJogger@feddit.org on 18 Jun 05:08 collapse

Because their shit is better than lots of other shit.

aeronmelon@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 16:09 next collapse

Nintendo: “Well, it’s obviously not our rushed production schedule or choosing to use cheaper parts… I wonder what it could be.”

Lfrith@lemmy.ca on 17 Jun 16:46 next collapse

I wish portable devices went back to being made with toolless battery swapping in mind like the old game boys.

atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works on 17 Jun 18:55 collapse

I think I would be more okay with having to undo a screw or two as long as it was still just as easy to get the battery out. The way the Advance SP and DSs handled it. Lithium batteries are slightly more unfriendly to being handled than AAs and this is a device aimed at children. Your point stands though.

pycorax@lemmy.world on 18 Jun 01:47 collapse

I think the New 3DS had the best implementation. The swappable backplate were cool and provided easy but child safe access to the batteries behind 2 normal Phillips screws.

RvTV95XBeo@sh.itjust.works on 18 Jun 03:15 next collapse

Hmm cause… It could be the battery. Or maybe the battery is fucked. If that’s not the case they could probably have a look at the battery and see if it failed.

vxx@lemmy.world on 18 Jun 05:44 collapse

It’s their way of saying they try to blame the customer first.

Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub on 18 Jun 13:12 next collapse

checks Steam Deck

Weirdly fine, hm…

garretble@lemmy.world on 18 Jun 20:57 collapse

Man, the Steam Deck bros are really insufferable, aren’t they?
