Sony increased their shares to 10% - becoming the largest shareholder they have.

The quotes also say the two companies be working closer together in the future, with Sony using their IPs for adaptations and publishing their works.

[…] the two companies plan to discuss specific initiatives for collaboration, such as initiatives to adapt KADOKAWA’s IP into live-action films and TV dramas globally, co-produce anime works, expand global distribution of KADOKAWA’s anime works through the Sony Group, further expand publishing of KADOKAWA’s games, and develop human resources to promote and expand virtual production.

This probably disproves the rumors that Sony will outright buy Kadokawa.

This is definitely the preferred outcome as a buyout would give Sony a practical monopoly of the anime industry with popular titles like Konosuba and other mainstream shows.
