I wonder when the Switch emulator titled “YASE” (literally “Yet Another Switch Emulator”) will show up and bring back an old tradition.

Tattorack@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 2024 12:02 collapse

Yinase Is Not A Switch Emulator.

simple@lemm.ee on 17 Nov 2024 13:28 next collapse

Even more confusing considering Citra is a well-known 3DS emulator, so you’d think that’s a fork of that

Aatube@kbin.melroy.org on 17 Nov 2024 13:46 next collapse

in fact it’s where most of the yuzu devs come from. they forked their infrastructure and GUI from citra

see also https://citra-emu.org/

narc0tic_bird@lemm.ee on 17 Nov 2024 16:52 next collapse

Yuzu is also a citrus fruit, so it at least makes sense.

Sebastrion@leminal.space on 17 Nov 2024 20:42 collapse

Isn’t the joke of the Portable Nintendo emulators, that their names are fruits? Citra -> Yuzu -> MelonDS

TheGalacticVoid@lemm.ee on 19 Nov 2024 09:30 collapse

I think that joke started with Citra because 3DS model numbers started with “CTR”

Sunny@slrpnk.net on 17 Nov 2024 15:27 next collapse

At least this one isnt hosted on Github, so assume its more difficult for them to take this one down(?)

ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 17 Nov 2024 16:31 next collapse

I’m hoping that at least one of them grows in development once the Switch 2 and its games arrived.

tinwelint@lemmy.zip on 17 Nov 2024 19:32 next collapse

I hope this one will get less attention or at least do « everything right ». No promoting hacking, no vending stuff and all, so that it stays alive despite any Nintendo attempts to kill it.

Tattorack@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 2024 12:00 collapse

Well… Ryujinx didn’t do any of that (as far as I’m aware) and they still got lynched.

dai@lemmy.world on 19 Nov 2024 11:14 collapse

Ryujinx reached an agreement with Nintendo is the rumour.

Tattorack@lemmy.world on 19 Nov 2024 12:34 collapse

Yeah, even if the rumours are true, I’d consider Ryujinx as good as dead.

sirico@feddit.uk on 17 Nov 2024 20:19 next collapse

Right don’t use your main GitHub accounts ffs

AkatsukiLevi@lemmy.world on 19 Nov 2024 10:59 collapse

That isn’t even being hosted on github

mox@lemmy.sdf.org on 17 Nov 2024 22:19 next collapse

tl;dr: It’s a Yuzu fork.

Tattorack@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 2024 11:59 collapse

Awesome! I really like Yuzu.

GhiLA@sh.itjust.works on 17 Nov 2024 22:23 next collapse

Changelog: we renamed it

AkatsukiLevi@lemmy.world on 17 Nov 2024 23:23 collapse

From what I saw, they’re doing some changes to improve shader recompilation Maybe too early, but seems this time they might actually do something to improve the codebase instead of ‘yet another renamed yuzu’

echodot@feddit.uk on 18 Nov 2024 05:02 next collapse

So as far as I can tell the idea here is to just continuously piss off Nintendo forever with a never-ending game of whack-a-mole?

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 2024 08:28 next collapse

*Mole Patrol

ATDA@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 2024 22:23 collapse

Frankly I wish I had the peogramming accumen to automate clones anonymously.

echodot@feddit.uk on 19 Nov 2024 09:18 collapse

It doesn’t need to be anything complicated. If you just re-upload the original code to a new location, and then Nintendo has to start the entire process of tracking the uploader down in order to threaten them.

Ironically for a video games company Nintendo don’t really seem to quite understand how the modern world works.

That’s nothing new.

I’m waiting for one with a fun name like Switchsticle
