Guys, what did you buy during the Steam autumn sale?
from Kasssa@lemmy.ml to games@lemmy.world on 28 Nov 08:33
https://lemmy.ml/post/22989676

I went ahead and bought a bunch of indie games, picked up Darkchaser, Oxygen Not Included, and UFO50, and also grabbed Cities: Skylines. Got used to the launch prices of some AAA games, buying these discounted low-priced games really doesn’t hurt much.

I have too much of a backlog of games i haven’t played yet. I did not buy anything. Friendly reminder to play your playlist before buying a new game.

Yeah I got the steam deck in the early spring this year and am still trying to get through Witcher 3 and fallout 4. I have a handful of games I got for PC back 15 years ago on steam that I still need to work on after that

kalpol@lemmy.world on 29 Nov 14:48 collapse

This is truth, although i did pick up Cities:Skylines. I’ve got to get through all the other Paradox games from the time they had the bundle sale

I’m gonna grab slimerancher.

TheTechnician27@lemmy.world on 28 Nov 09:55 next collapse

Slime Rancher for $2 is 100% worth it! It’s one of those games where gameplay becomes kind of meandering once you’ve seen the sights and built the things, but it’s a very unique experience.

You’re not alone, seems like the game has its moment now :)

Not on steam, but I bought Haven and The Talos Principle 2 on GoG.

I already played Haven on GamePass a few years ago, but I wanted to own it because it’s very good (also to support the developers). As for Talos, I played the original twice and absolutely loved it, so I’m eager to play the sequel.

inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world on 28 Nov 09:29 collapse

I played Talos principal 2 this year and it honestly blew me away. It goes without saying the puzzles were intriguing but the story, world building, atmosphere and dialogue are the real stars of the experience.

caut_R@lemmy.world on 28 Nov 09:18 next collapse

I‘m considering getting Sizeable and the collection of all the games the Hook guy has made - so basically a buncha puzzle games. I‘m also looking at Psychonauts 2 and the „new“ NFS cause both are five bucks so I‘m like what the hell why not. And Hotline Miami 2, I‘m in the mood for some senseless violence. To top it off, Streets of Rogue and The Messenger. All of it together would come in at exactly 29.99 for me lol

There‘s other games I want more, but they‘re all still more expensive (or close to) than this whole bundle so it‘s not really worth it IMO considering the amount of games I still got anyway.

Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world on 28 Nov 09:46 next collapse

I got a steam deck last spring, before that I’ve not done any gaming since I had a PS2 so I’ve got a good twenty years of games to catch up on. It’s a bit frustrating how crap I am at gaming, particularly with shooters. I’m trying some different things to try and figure out what I’m into. I recently finished bioshock, so I just bought bioshock infinite. Also alien isolation, Alan wake, resident evil, and Uncharted legacy of thieves collection. I don’t get a lot of screen time but I’ll find time to try em out and see what grabs me.

domi@lemmy.secnd.me on 28 Nov 11:20 collapse

It’s a bit frustrating how crap I am at gaming, particularly with shooters.

Since you have a Steam Deck, did you experiment with gyro and trackpad aim? I suck at controller aiming as well but that makes it so much easier.

Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world on 28 Nov 12:41 collapse

Hmm no I haven’t. Thanks, maybe I should give it a try. I guess trackpad aim is just using the pads instead of the joystick? I’ve not used gyros at all, does that require tilting the device? Yeah I seem to be enjoying FPS games but I’m frustrated by how shit I am even on easy mode! I used to be good at unreal tournament way back but seems like games have come a long way since then and I’ve lost the knack.

domi@lemmy.secnd.me on 28 Nov 13:02 collapse

I guess trackpad aim is just using the pads instead of the joystick?

You can combine as well. I usually use the stick on the left hand and the trackpad on the right one. You can also go back and forth while playing.

does that require tilting the device?

Yep, you can set it to activate only if your finger is resting on the right joystick. Very useful for precise movement, just bring the camera in an approximate direction with the stick and do the rest with the gyro control.

For the more popular games there’s usually a few community profiles you can download and try before messing with Steam Input yourself.

Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world on 28 Nov 14:42 collapse

Hmm I’m not sure I like the idea of tilting the device - with the steam deck you’re tilting the screen too. Doesn’t that impact your view of the screen?

But I’m definitely gonna try your trackpad suggestion. Thanks, I’ll see how it goes. Do you use it in hectic situations - like doom etc? Or is it better for sniping and stuff where you have time to aim?

domi@lemmy.secnd.me on 28 Nov 21:26 collapse

Doesn’t that impact your view of the screen?

Depends on the sensitivity you configure, usually you only tilt a few degress. I do prefer it on a Dualsense controller though with no display attached to the controller.

Do you use it in hectic situations - like doom etc? Or is it better for sniping and stuff where you have time to aim?

Usually for instances where I have time to aim. I have seen quite a few people who are really good with the trackpad but I’m more of a mouse or gyro control guy.

Trackpad rules in strategy games though.

simple@lemm.ee on 28 Nov 19:25 collapse

I bought this last time it was on sale, and while the game is fun I have a word of warning for people looking to buy this to play with friends: The online is NOT stable!

It often hangs while connecting to a race and waits for the server upwards of multiple minutes. That’s bad since a race itself can be a minute or two long. Also, you can’t race against each other with AI cars, the options are either playing co-op which is piss easy or face each other alone. Races are just a bit lonely with 2 or 3 players.

Multiplayer aside, Forza is a really fun time, I just wouldn’t buy it if you’re mainly looking to play with friends.

AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world on 29 Nov 05:11 collapse

Also, if it gets delisted, you will be unable to play single player or multiplayer. I found this out the hard way with Forza Motorsport 7 and Gran Turismo Sport.

I have the physical DVDs or BluRay disks for both games. Neither will work even for single player because you have to download the tracks from the server every single race. No server means no tracks.

After 60 hours I finally left Gleba. As soon as I got “home” had to head back to Gleba. Still stuck there. In the beginning I hate Gleba, now I love it. It gave me back the feeling of playing Factorio for the first time, running around and know nothing (and I I have over 3.5k hours). 10/10 would recommend the DLC.

AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world on 29 Nov 05:02 collapse

After 200 hours I have a “factory” on Vulcanus, Fulgora, and Gleba. I need to redesign all four factories, including Nauvis, at this point to use Foundries, and Electromagnetic Plants at scale, oh and Biological Science Labs. I have finally started learning circuit networks and train scheduling.

I had over 3000 hours in the game previously, got all the achievements that didn’t require a time limit, and had beaten Pyanodon, SeaBlock, Bob’s and Angel’s overhaul, and several other overhaul mods that I don’t remember, but I never managed to fully finish Space Exploration because of randomly generated items, and a complete inability to comprehend how the old circuit network worked.

Space Age is absolutely the best of all the overhaul mods combined into one single expansion pack. I cannot wait to get to the Shattered Planet and find out what no one has shown yet. I’ll be weeks behind them when I get there, I’m sure

AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world on 29 Nov 05:05 collapse

Factorio was in early access for 8 years. What’s your point? Indy games take a while to develop because they gain haters and naysayers, like you, logarithmically compared to the funding that they get.

So far, Dyson Sphere Program has been in early access for 4 years, and they have one hell of a game.

I technically own Project Zomboid, I just don’t really have any particular projects to complete in that platform, so I’m not exactly what you would call a fan of the game. I can see potential for an absolutely immersive RPG that could compete with Fallout 1 and 2 once the developers have time and funding to complete what they want to do.

Good characters, and the pacing is pretty solid unless you’re a completions (which is your own fault). There’s some weird mechanics that progress the story that kind of break immersion that they chose because of the open world setting, but it’s a solid game. Enjoy!

If you like it, “new dawn” is pretty OK. Wait for it to be cheap, it’s basically really meaty DLC.

Nothing yet. Currently having Slime Rancher and Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood in my cart. Wondering if buying games right now is even worth it with PoE2 coming next friday lol

Seasm0ke@lemmy.world on 29 Nov 19:21 next collapse

Dark souls remastered, sekiro, and cities skylines

Anybody got an opinion on which is the best Far Cry game aside from the first three?

Blackmist@feddit.uk on 29 Nov 20:39 next collapse

5

Neon@lemmy.world on 29 Nov 20:56 collapse

5 has a amazing weapons modifications system

new dawn is absolutely amazing, but it is very much “qualität statt quantität”, meaning: very good game, but also a small game.

Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org on 29 Nov 21:01 collapse

Ich hab auch Qualität statt Quantität verstanden =P danke!

I really wanted to try Starfield but can’t justify the price. Like I want to buy it, but I also don’t have that kind of money to spend. Might start asking around my local friends to see if any of them have it so I can library share with them

Cethin@lemmy.zip on 29 Nov 22:31 collapse

I had access to it with GamePass when it launched (I’m full Linux now so I’ve canceled that). I still pirated it because you can’t mod games distributed by Windows unless the specifically allow it. I’m saying this to say, there are alternative means to try it available if you want, but also I regret the time I wasted on it. It wasn’t worth the time spent not even spending money on it specifically, and I love previous Bethesda games and the sci-fi genre.

Any games you recommend playing? I’m very bored lately

Just bought Riven, I’m liking it quite a lot so far. I see why it’s a classic. Love the feeling of being dropped into a completely alien world.

scratchee@feddit.uk on 29 Nov 22:09 collapse

Great game! Just be glad you don’t have to swap the cd every 20 clicks. Riven was basically 1 disc per cutscene when it first came out and I remember getting very frustrated as a kid when I accidentally triggered an island switch and knew it’d be 10 minutes until I could get back.

crossdl@leminal.space on 29 Nov 21:04 next collapse

Fuck, fam.

I legit dropped $100. I have a Steam Deck now so it’s like I can have ANY OF IT.

So far, LOTR Moria, For Honor, Barotrauma, and Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance.

I had Dark Alliance on my OG Xbox when I was younger and I’m really looking forward to playing it again as like an idle game.

Nothing, I’m from Argentina and now if I buy a game I can’t eat for a weak.

Sorry to hear that. Sail the high seas with no worries. You can still contribute to digital preservation of games by seeding. But don’t worry if you can’t do that.

I hope things get better for you!

Im seeding as no one with my 4tb disk and 30mb of upload 💪

I got all the cheap classics I had been playing with an eyepatch and a peg leg years ago. I’m especially excited about Magicka 2 to play with friends. My nephew is gonna love them!

Mainly Banishers Ghosts of New Eden. I don’t have much money at the moment due to almost 4 months of unemployment, just got a new job and with my first paycheck from 4 days of work I got that, plus the new humble bundle, a couple coloring packs cause I like the pixel coloring books, and a couple games that were $2-3 each: a zelda clone called Blossom Tales, The Snow Fable: Mystery of the Flame (I also like hidden object adventure games), a lovecraftian 2d platformer called The Last Case of Benedict Fox, and adventure game version of Sherlock Holmes: Hound of the Baskervilles and a Wipeout clone called Flashout 3.

Finally got Witcher 3 on my PC so I can play that again.

Me and the (long distance) gf bought It Takes Two

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Death’s Door, cute souls like

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

And God of War Ragnarok wasn’t on sale but I was waiting to see if it would be, so I technically bought it during the autumn sale

wilsnat@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 30 Nov 20:46 next collapse

UFO 50, In Other Waters, Planet of Lana, The Last Game, Genome Guardian, La-Mulana 2, Stacklands DLC…And a steam deck. I decided to finally get the deck before we might get tariffs and UFO 50 was my main purchase for handheld play.

Lastly, I really enjoyed Moonring during this sale period but that is available for free. Thought I should give it some cred despite not fitting your prompt.

_cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 02 Dec 17:51 collapse

None, because I bought everything on the store I wanted in the last 50 seasonal sales. 😫
