I am once again asking for Metroid Prime 4 and a release date for Silksong.

ytsedude@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 15:16 next collapse

Nintendo execs: No.

ampersandrew@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 15:17 next collapse

Silksong has already had some kind of deal with Microsoft in place, so if it shows up on a platform holder’s stream rather than their own thing, it’s more likely they show up with Microsoft than Nintendo. Given that it got content rated already, it’s still due for a release this year, so maybe we hear about it with Gamescom.

simple@lemm.ee on 17 Jun 15:37 collapse

Does it? The last time the game was shown was in a Nintendo event 5 years ago.

ampersandrew@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 15:43 collapse

No, it showed up at an Xbox showcase in 2022, where every game was going to be on Game Pass day 1 and releasing within 12 months, which would have meant the game would be out by June 2023. Silksong wasn’t the only game that missed that 12 month window, but it showed that, at the time, they were confident that it was nearly done, and that they took a deal with Microsoft, because being on Game Pass day 1 means Microsoft offered them a huge bucket of money to make up for lost sales.

simple@lemm.ee on 17 Jun 16:05 collapse

Ahhh, you’re right. I forgot about that Xbox showcase. I also remember when the Xbox twitter account confirmed the game was coming 2023…

whereBeWaldo@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 18 Jun 10:34 collapse

Even if they give a release date for silksong I doubt its gonna be released at the said date given their track record.

Stereotype_Be@lemm.ee on 17 Jun 14:48 next collapse

This is the Direct where they announce Twilight Princess and Wind Waker for the Switch. I can feel it! I wish they would, but I’m not holding my breath.

ieightpi@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 15:38 next collapse

There have been rumors of a 2D Zelda too, so I have a feeling we see Zelda in this direct in some form.

Stereotype_Be@lemm.ee on 17 Jun 18:20 collapse

Yeah, if I remember correctly they’ve said they’ve been working on or have completed a remastered Oracle of Ages/Seasons in the style of Link’s Awakening.

technomad@slrpnk.net on 17 Jun 21:08 next collapse

Ok, that one might catch my interest.

ieightpi@lemmy.world on 18 Jun 16:10 collapse

Interesting twist we got today

Stereotype_Be@lemm.ee on 18 Jun 16:33 collapse

I agree! I thought it was A Link to the Past or the Oracle games remastered in the Link’s Awakening style. I didn’t think we’d ever get a game where we played as Zelda!

simple@lemm.ee on 17 Jun 15:39 next collapse

WindWaker feels very possible, there was already a remake for Wii U. Not sure why they never ported it over.

timo_timboo_@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 16:03 next collapse

It was a remaster

Stereotype_Be@lemm.ee on 17 Jun 18:21 collapse

I have WW and TP on Wii U, but I rarely play my Wii U.

camr_on@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 20:27 collapse

I waited for years for them to release them on the switch and I finally just emulated them on the steam deck. Not sure why Nintendo doesn’t want my money

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 14:56 next collapse

Friendly reminder that the piracy of Nintendo games is not only always morally correct, but more importantly, it’s obligatory.

ieatpwns@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 15:07 collapse

To add to this… game boy, gameboy color, and gameboy advance libraries all fit on a single 32GB SD card

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 15:09 next collapse

Nice!

maxprime@lemmy.ml on 17 Jun 16:31 next collapse

While this is true I would recommend choosing just a few of your favourite games from each console, in which case you can probably fit your all time fav games from every Nintendo console on a 256gb SD card, and probably a 32GB for all you faves pre Wii.

As someone who has an overwhelmingly large ROM library, I often find I have nothing to play because my library is too large.

RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 18:50 collapse

Nah, get them all. Just to spite Nintendo.

Like, before I only had a small handful because I thought hey, if I ever need to access them in case my dumping hardware stops working or something, I can. But now that Nintendo is making everything disappear and nobody is fighting them, other companies are following their lead. SEGA and companies in the ESA.

Get the entire library at once and you dont have to worry about media being destroyed forever.

maxprime@lemmy.ml on 17 Jun 20:06 collapse

Yeah, that’s a good point but I am very skeptical that Nintendo roms are going to be lost forever. Some of the popular sites are getting hit, but this has been happening for decades. Soon enough there will be a new site that makes it easy, and there will always be Usenet and private trackers that are far more robust.

toxicbubble@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 19:23 collapse

you can fit snes on there too while ur at it, maybe DS as well

TWeaK@lemm.ee on 17 Jun 18:54 next collapse

The more I hear that they won’t announce the Switch 2 the more I think they will.

cheddar@programming.dev on 18 Jun 08:58 collapse

Yeah, that is exactly what somebody who is planning to announce Switch 2 would say.

LostWanderer@lemmynsfw.com on 17 Jun 19:24 next collapse

Eh, if there’s no announcement, I can’t be bothered. As of late, the Switch has been showing its age to me. I don’t want to buy games for out of date hardware; I will play the games that I own, but not buy another game until Nintendo gets vastly improved hardware out there.

technomad@slrpnk.net on 17 Jun 21:05 next collapse

You think they’re going to vastly improve it though? My impression is they’ll do some kind of gimmick again. I could be wrong though.

LostWanderer@lemmynsfw.com on 17 Jun 22:01 collapse

Honestly, I’d accept something much better but not a massive upgrade. The thing enough power under the hood to make it easier for devs to port their games. Making the Switch an attractive choice and for games to run smoothly on their handheld/console. I would prefer Nintendo bring back home consoles, as it would be easier to make a strong performer.

My hope is that they make a true contender, however, this might not be Nintendo’s plan. They very well may choose to make another gimmick; perhaps Nintendo will refine a gimmick this time with their next hardware release?

cheddar@programming.dev on 18 Jun 09:01 collapse

I doubt they will. Ninendo is not fighting with PS and Xbox, and it surely has no reason to fight with Steam Deck and other powerful portables. They found their market, and they are extremely successful at what they are doing. One does not need super hardware to create wonderful games.

camr_on@lemmy.world on 17 Jun 20:26 next collapse

Inb4 GameCube games on the switch 8 years too late

hal_5700X@sh.itjust.works on 18 Jun 08:07 collapse

ResetERA…no thanks.

emb@lemmy.world on 18 Jun 13:35 collapse

Ehh, I know it’s not the original source, but I saw it there. Then it was either link to that or Twitter.
