The Steam BulletHeaven2.0 festival has arrived

There are so many quirky game festivals. Previously, there was an ‘Airplane and Train Game Festival’ specifically promoting airplane and train games. This time, Steam has introduced a new BulletHeaven Game Festival, featuring games similar to Vampire Survivors. Many survivor-like games are participating in the event, and new games like Pest Apocalypse and Darkchaser are being launched.

So Vampire Survivors has been dominating me for a month or two now, I really love it. Any recommendations?

RmDebArc_5@sh.itjust.works on 07 Dec 09:19 next collapse

I’d recommend Brotato. It’s the same game style, but with a simplistic map and more complex upgrade system. Also it’s only five bucks

MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works on 07 Dec 09:45 next collapse

Brotato is free on epic right now

mutilated_sphincter@lemmy.world on 07 Dec 10:02 collapse

Yeah, but screw Epic.

MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works on 07 Dec 10:05 collapse

A free game is a free game my dude

Cris16228@lemmy.today on 07 Dec 12:27 collapse

You’re paying with your own data. Ye ye “steam does that too” or “everyone does that” but they have Chinese smoll pp backing them

SplashJackson@lemmy.ca on 07 Dec 12:49 next collapse

Which data would that be, exactly?

MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works on 07 Dec 15:48 collapse

I’m not a fan of tencent or china exactly but it’s not like the data they’re collecting is precious to me at all. If they think there’s value in a bunch of nonsense that only allows generalisations then I’m fine with that if I get something from it, like free games.

Cris16228@lemmy.today on 07 Dec 18:07 collapse

You are part of the problem though… They’re ruining gaming on PC and you’re helping them by signing up to their site and actively collecting free games, did you know that?

MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works on 07 Dec 18:55 collapse

And valve are instead the saviour? I have no allegiances when it comes to platforms. I play all consoles and use all storefronts.

Out of all platforms I’ve had more grievances with steam lately when it comes to customer support and refunds.

Cris16228@lemmy.today on 07 Dec 20:35 collapse

Valve made possible gaming on Linux for example. What about lil Tim? What did he do? Divided gamers on PC because he wanted a share in the PC gaming market

MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works on 07 Dec 20:55 collapse

I’m not discrediting valve for all the good they’ve done but they’re not holier then thou. And it’s not like I pick epic over steam. I buy on steam way more due to convenience, but I have to also be smart with money at times and just buy where it’s cheapest and take as much free stuff as I can get.

Also “dividing” the pc market is not a bad thing. Why would you want one company with a monopoly? They should have competition, it’s how we get good customer focused values in the products and services we use.

Problem is: Lil Tim doesn’t offer anything good and “free games” are not enough. I wonder how many games you played from the ones you collected. Don’t answer, I don’t care.

You’re still part of the problem. You’re the reason why they can keep doing what they do

MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works on 07 Dec 23:36 collapse

If doing what they are doing is occasionally giving us cheaper games and making it so steam has to up their game on sales again then yeah, I’m glad to be part of that problem. You’re welcome.

Cris16228@lemmy.today on 08 Dec 11:16 collapse

Don’t complain when you’ll lose access to your account and they basically tell you to fuck off because for “security reasons” they can’t recover it :)

RmDebArc_5@sh.itjust.works on 08 Dec 21:25 collapse

Actually, the percentage of drm free games on Epic is pretty high, sometimes the same game will be drm free on epic and require drm on steam. Games that do require epics drm though can fuck off (especially since their is no offline mode). List

Cris16228@lemmy.today on 08 Dec 21:33 collapse

Who cares? Fuck Epic

A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world on 07 Dec 10:07 collapse

Went ahead and snagged it, thanks!

Deep rock galactic survivor is pretty fun

Holocure is pretty great

If you meant another Bullet Heaven, Halls of Torment is pretty good. It’s Bullet Heaven with a giant slather of Diablo gameplay-wise, without the build complexity.

reseller_pledge609@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 07 Dec 09:20 collapse

I’ve seen bullet heaven mentioned once or twice recently. What’s the difference between bullet heaven and bullet hell?

A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world on 07 Dec 09:39 collapse

So in BulletHells you’ve got a ton of shit coming at you that you’ve got to dodge carefully, right?

In BulletHeavens, all that chaos comes from you. You run around as all your attacks go off constantly, getting more extreme as time goes by, and hundreds of enemies get deleted in seconds.

reseller_pledge609@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 07 Dec 10:18 collapse

That definitely sounds way more fun. And the description makes perfect sense too. Thanks for explaining.

A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world on 07 Dec 10:30 collapse

You’re welcome!

Vampire Survivors has been absolutely owning my free time for weeks now, it’s so much goddamn fun and there is so much to unlock and use it’s amazing. Just when I thought I learned pretty much everything, I unlocked something and opened up a whole new game’s worth of content.

It’s the ultimate dopamine generator

xavier666@lemm.ee on 09 Dec 05:07 collapse

I call it the gaming equivalent of Tiktok. No story, no permanence, instant gratification.
