This month’s titles have been revealed (as Amazon always does!)

‘But what is Prime Gaming’? I’m new to it!

It’s as simple as free games every month! Prime Gaming offers a rotating selection of free PC games each month, ranging from indie titles to AAA classics. This is dependent on you having an Amazon Prime subscription, but if you’ve been near my Mastodon posts at all you’ll know I can’t stop shouting about how good the deal is.

To me, it’s the best deal in gaming (mostly because I get so many GOG titles each month!), I just love it. Once claimed, the games are yours to keep forever (usually via Epic Games, GOG, or Amazon Games launcher).

Past giveaways have included games like

…and like, why even bother listing them, it’s a lot

Quick summary for how it works:

The games selection are actually pretty good, as long as you don’t choose any of the amazon gaming ones. Those are crap

Protoknuckles@lemmy.world on 01 May 22:17 next collapse

Sweet, mostly gog codes! I don’t use epic.

EDIT - Also, SW galactic Battlegrounds is GOAT.

Hypnospace Outlaw!!! What a trip into the past this game is. Also has a great soundtrack.

Corporate bribery to lock you into some shit service like amazon. No thanks…I’ll keep my money, and just buy the games I want instead. I will save money in the long run

ampersandrew@lemmy.world on 02 May 01:57 next collapse

Nah, you can unsubscribe after a month. If the price of the games you want is more expensive than a month of Prime, you come out ahead, and it can frequently work out in your favor.

PerfectDark@lemmy.world on 02 May 02:38 collapse

How on earth does this lock you in?

smeg@feddit.uk on 01 May 23:05 next collapse

As I post whenever someone complains about them not being free in !freegames@feddit.uk: you can sign up for a free trial of prime, claim the thirty or so games currently available, cancel, and keep all the games forever without having to give a penny to Amazon.

Thanks for the tip for those new to this!

I seem to have injured some people, I get the stance on Amazon - no one likes the megacorps. But if you’re subscribed, I can’t see how ‘free’ GOG games are a bad thing to anyone.

Appreciate your comment in here :)

As with all offers like this Amazon are hoping that it causes people who weren’t subscribed before to stat paying them regularly, and posts like this are kind of giving them free advertising.

It’s similar to recommending something like reward credit cards (where you can make money off them as long as you pay them off in full and never pay any interest), if you’re sensible enough with your money then you can get a freebie but the provider is looking to profit off you messing up or forgetting.

Free*

*Not free

PerfectDark@lemmy.world on 03 May 22:37 collapse

  • Sign up for a month for their free trial, use an email mask if you’re so inclined

  • Claim the games, which again - you get to keep forever

  • Cancel the subscription

Rinse and repeat. Literally the definition of free. And don’t act like I didn’t remind users that this is done via an Amazon Prime subscription, there is no subterfuge here.
