I mainly like that it shows non vr games in the recent games now. It was an absolute pain to navigate and find a flat game, even if I had just played it a minute earlier.

Uncle_Iroh@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 11:15 collapse

Why play flat games in vr

pigeon_tonic@kbin.social on 27 Sep 2023 12:28 next collapse

Bigger screen

Uncle_Iroh@lemmy.world on 28 Sep 2023 06:20 collapse

Huge degredation in quality

rustyricotta@lemmy.ml on 27 Sep 2023 18:32 collapse

My main use case is that it lets me play laying down in my bed. It’s pretty great for my back.

Uncle_Iroh@lemmy.world on 28 Sep 2023 06:21 collapse

Ah fair enough, I watch my series like that sometimes.

AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 10:39 next collapse

So when can we try it with a new afordable Steam PC headset?

LufyCZ@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 11:12 next collapse

Pretty sure it’s supposed to launch together with HL3 👍

2014 can’t come soon enough!!

Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 20:36 collapse

Probably in 10 years when 4k per eye displays cost $2.50 and Wifi 9 can transmit DisplayPort 3 with low latency.

jesusrp98@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 11:22 next collapse

Cheap steam vr headset anyone?

CosmicSploogeDrizzle@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 11:25 next collapse

This makes me more confident that their next hardware release will be a standalone/PC hybrid VR headset to compete with the quest 2/3.

Puzzle_Sluts_4Ever@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 17:05 collapse

Speculation is strongly leaning toward it not being a standalone device and instead being in the WMR/PSVR space. Possibly coupled with a return of “Steam Machines” for a tv/console experience.

I would still prefer a standalone/hybrid. But with wireless a lot of the need for that goes away. Same with if the Steam Deck is powerful enough for stuff like h3vr and other “standalone” levels of games (and, back of the envelope, it is very much capable of that).

And I think the bigger advantage will likely be to focus on OS agnostic support for the HMD itself since that is kind of a cluster. Probably will still mean everything runs on steamvr (which makes porn apps a bit risky), but will couple well with unity’s cock up and people generally getting pissy if you remind them that “meta” is “facebook”.

Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 20:33 next collapse

As long as it’s wireless it doesn’t need to be standalone. How many VR users take their HMD outside their home?

Puzzle_Sluts_4Ever@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 20:45 collapse

It is less about taking your HMD on the go and more about not needing a computer. For a lot of people, having a “gaming rig” is very intimidating. And, as the quest (and steam deck…) have shown, you don’t really need too powerful of a computer to run “basic” vr, but you do need the right ports and so forth.

But also? A lot of people have a complete potato of a laptop that can’t even do that.

For me? Standalone does indeed matter less than wireless. But wireless is expensive radios and power issues. Whereas standalone that I can plug in if I want to play Alyx or something with better visuals? That is my jam

Also: Standalone lets you go to a different room. Whereas you don’t want to get too far away from the radio dongle with a wireless setup. Which gets back to porn apps and maybe wanting a wank in your bedroom instead of the office. Or… having more room to move around when you play Gorn, sure.

Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow@lemmy.world on 28 Sep 2023 04:05 collapse

Valve are releasing a self contained PC with the wireless built in.

bingbong@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 27 Sep 2023 20:33 collapse

will still mean everything runs on steamvr (which makes porn apps a bit risky)

Please tell me there’s a solution 🥺

XTornado@lemmy.ml on 28 Sep 2023 09:49 collapse

I never looked into it but what is the risk!? Like can you just use another account like for normal non VR games? Or this about something else?

bingbong@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 28 Sep 2023 15:17 collapse

Oh, I didn’t know you could just use another account

Good to know… For a friend of course

blindbunny@lemmy.ml on 27 Sep 2023 11:53 next collapse

Steam vs Apple future is becoming apparent. This is the kind of competition this market needs.

AProfessional@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 14:25 collapse

If Apple actually wants to compete in affordable VR gaming maybe.

cryptiod137@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 19:39 collapse

Seemingly apple doesn’t want VR gaming at all, so that should be an easy win

DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 27 Sep 2023 17:46 next collapse

New store interface….???

Deckard stand-alone VR rumors intensify

bappity@lemmy.world on 27 Sep 2023 20:02 collapse

if deckard turns out to be inside out tracked with a depth sensor to scan the playspace instead of having to manually set it like how quest 3 is said to have soon I will scream
