I think he definitely left his EA mark on the company.

I hope it’s Birdo Toad

Gannon brain-masters? Ridley deedeedee-king? Elizabeth m.¹ dos?

Next up, Dennis Kirby

everett@lemmy.ml on 26 Sep 02:27 collapse

You joke, but

Shigeru Miyamoto stated that “Kirby” was chosen partly in honor of American lawyer John Kirby, who defended Nintendo in the Universal City Studios, Inc. v. Nintendo Co., Ltd. case

idiomaddict@lemmy.world on 26 Sep 05:35 next collapse

lol, what a dubious honor. “Are you saying I suck?”

neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works on 26 Sep 17:52 collapse

More importantly, you suck the most.

John Kirby (the attorney) died in 2019

I wonder if Kirby liked Kirby.

thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works on 26 Sep 00:33 next collapse

OK, so which of the Koopalings is next in line? My money’s on Ludwig!

Given my general distain for modern Nintendo, I’d have no qualms in using AI to generate a Succession parody using the Koopa Kids, if only I knew how… 😅

SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca on 27 Sep 00:49 collapse

If they want a CEO with some balls, they’d choose Lemmy.

mesamunefire@piefed.social on 26 Sep 00:35 next collapse

Wow he didn’t last too long.

simple@piefed.social on 26 Sep 00:42 next collapse

Good. Reggie was a charismatic leader that pushed against Nintendo Japan to be more consumer friendly. This man did nothing and had zero presence. I wonder what he was even doing there.

Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world on 26 Sep 01:18 collapse

But his name was Bowser! You know…like the Nintendo character!

Yeah, past the first week of funny headlines I never thought of him again.

frongt@lemmy.zip on 26 Sep 00:56 next collapse

Devon Pritchard will take on the role. She currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Revenue, Marketing and Consumer Experience.

Profitability. That’s not reassuring.

inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world on 26 Sep 02:23 next collapse

Nope. Not at all.

tahoe@lemmy.world on 26 Sep 05:49 next collapse

Unsurprising, but still disappointing

dukemirage@lemmy.world on 26 Sep 11:03 collapse

Oh no someone with business and management experience takes on a business management role in a business that runs solely to acquire money. Nintendo‘s pricing policies are already maxed for profitability, anyway.

mugita_sokiovt@discuss.online on 26 Sep 01:29 next collapse

Good. Bowser knows his jig is up. Let’s see if Pritchard pulls a Reggie sometime soon.

Lanusensei87@lemmy.world on 26 Sep 02:26 collapse

Not likely at all, this restructuring was made to give NCL more control over NoA, Pritchard is there to run the ship, the new CEO of NoA, Satoru Shibata, is the one you should be looking at.

mugita_sokiovt@discuss.online on 26 Sep 02:58 collapse

Never heard of him, but I’d like to research what he’s up to, especially since, based upon what you’re saying… something seems wrong in your eyes. I had some hope, also knowing that likely things would stay the same.

dangrousperson@feddit.org on 26 Sep 10:27 collapse

I’m not sure if they’re concerned with Saturo Shibata directly, it’s just that under Reggie, Nintendo of America pushed hard for stuff like free Wii Sports and cheaper prices (which worked great, making the Wii a huge success), while the Nintendo Japan was of the opinion that nothing should ever be given away for free.

Under Bowser, Nintendo of America fell in line behind Japan. Culminating in stuff like the welcome tour for the Nintendo Switch 2, something that is just a tech demo of the device you just spent $400+ on, costing $10.

Having Saturo Shibata as CEO, it seems this will get worse, not better, since Nintendo Japan is excerting more control over NoA.

Infrapink@thebrainbin.org on 26 Sep 14:26 next collapse

Point of order: Wii Sports was not free. The price of the game was added to the price of the Wii, but since you couldn't get a Wii without Wii Sports, people just assumed that was the base price.

mugita_sokiovt@discuss.online on 26 Sep 17:46 collapse

There really should be another Iwata-type guy, and not Shibita-type, to be fair.

SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world on 26 Sep 02:38 next collapse

So long gay bowser

ms_lane@lemmy.world on 26 Sep 05:35 next collapse

Pritchard will take on the role.

About time! What, did she get stuck in an airduct on the way there?

reshuffle6655@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 26 Sep 11:21 next collapse

Pritchard (bowsers successor) holds a doctorate of law from Gonzaga and a bachelors in biological sciences from Kansas state…Id speculate that Satoru Shibata will do more of the actual management given his continuing role as managing executive officer and corporate director at Nintendo co Ltd, his previous roles as president of Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo of Australia, and this new position at NOA concurrent with his NCL duties, but it’s really funny if unsurprising to me that Nintendo chose a fucking lawyer as their Chief operations officer.

SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works on 26 Sep 11:33 next collapse

I guess Mario or Luigi jumped on his head twice already. Bowser knew the gig was up, and got out while he could
