Time for PS5 Ultra Pro Max

PunchingWood@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 13:45 next collapse

Or they gonna introduce GPU attachments instead of the disc drive lmao

But seriously, itā€™s beyond sad how awful this ā€œupgradeā€ is. First itā€™s an insane price for minimal upgrade, there are no new games to even make use of this, and now even older games canā€™t properly make use of the better hardware. The whole reason to even upgrade diminishes really quickly, and it wasnā€™t even worth it in the first place.

Although itā€™s kinda funny to read about people who bought the Pro and then share negative reviews how so-not-worth the purchase was. Listing all kinds of negatives that they couldā€™ve known prior to buying one if they put in even minimal effort to research.

The one good thing the PS5 pro brought was the news that scalpers got fucked up because the demand is so damn low

I still see the PS5Pro as a bit dumb, but also not sure what Sony could easily do around this problem.

Weā€™re at the graphical plateau where any improvements become extremely expensive, and increasingly hard to notice. Sure, we have 4K TVs and weā€™re not quite able to play all our games at 4K 120fps, but very few people care about that level of detail. Honestly, I donā€™t even know what Sony may be planning for the PS6 while still keeping it at a reasonable price.

Release a slim model and some colors?

Gamingā€™s problem is games. I have no idea why Sony keeps throwing more hardware at less games if hardware is the loss leader in the gaming industry anyway.

Go bribe Remedy or FROM or somebody for an exclusive, wash/rinse/repeat the Bloodborne strategy.

Ray tracing. It makes good looking human skin. But if course it only matters for 3D games that arenā€™t cel shaded.

The Ps5 has games?

Games donā€™t need to be PS5 exclusive to be PS5 Pro enhanced.

And the rubes still bought a pro anyway

I think the ps4 had had price cuts by now . Instead theyā€™re mainlining Premium Plus

donuts@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 15:14 next collapse

So 2 out of 50 games arenā€™t really improved, aka 4%.

Turns out you canā€™t just throw better hardware at every game to make it run better, who would have thought.

filister@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 17:18 next collapse

This works for PC but not for PS. PS games are highly optimised to target the current generation of consoles and there is very little initiative for developers to target a new console platform unless Sony sells tens of millions of those, which I very much doubt.

lustyargonian@lemm.ee on 19 Nov 04:54 collapse

It shows how devs often look at better hardware and prioritise heavier features over image quality and performance. Current gen of games could easily do 4k60 (most last gen games run like that) if they didnā€™t try to get RT into the mix, but devs donā€™t like that as RT gives them more time and resources that originally wouldā€™ve been spent on placing lights or baking scenes.

No thank you Sony.

Viri4thus@feddit.org on 18 Nov 16:34 next collapse

Games not in the list of enhanced titles are not enhanced by the PS5 pro.

People who do not realize this are the same room temp IQ people who bough a PS5 pro.

More news at 11.

Voyajer@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 17:16 collapse

The PS4 pro could run non-updated games with better performance. Does the PS5 pro not have boost mode or whatever itā€™s called?

Viri4thus@feddit.org on 18 Nov 18:40 collapse

ā€œWe expect Pro implementations to improve over time, and the first party Sony titles weā€™ve seen in the pipeline (Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone) looks simply sensational, but it may be some time before developers fully get to grips with the new hardware. But on the flipside, even in the here and now, even with so many different high resolution mode variations in the titles weā€™ve looked at so far, the bottom line is clear. Not much more money is buying a whole lot more power.ā€

eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2016-playstation-4-pā€¦

The PS4 pro had a much more compelling price position, however, the landing was pretty much the same.

heavy@sh.itjust.works on 18 Nov 16:51 next collapse

Silent Hill 2 is a strange beast, you can tell it runs horribly. Iā€™m sure a cracker or something is figuring it out.

Donā€™t buy the Ps5 pro though, thereā€™s no point.

filister@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 17:16 next collapse

CMV but the PS5 Pro is a completely pointless release. The only reason I see is for Sony to try to justify the higher price tag on the PS6 once it releases.

AlexisFR@jlai.lu on 18 Nov 18:26 next collapse

Shouldā€™ve upgraded the CPU too!

dingdongitsabear@lemmy.ml on 18 Nov 17:49 collapse

Donā€™t follow the PS scene, but I gathered thatā€™s an AMD APU in there? If so, whatā€™s the desktop equivalent performance-wise?

AlexisFR@jlai.lu on 18 Nov 18:27 collapse

The PS5 pro GPU is equivalent to a Radeon 7800XT with slightly better ray tracing cores, the CPU to a Ryzen 7 3700X with limited power.
