To the dismay of sweaty 'movement kids,' Battlefield 6 is nerfing Call of Duty sliding and jumping to maintain a 'traditional Battlefield experience' (www.pcgamer.com)

DICE is yet to give clarity on map sizes, comment section is the usual dumpster fire.

a “traditional battlefield experience” for me will always be the guadalcanal map. are we getting that back?

Deyis@beehaw.org on 23 Aug 07:14 next collapse

For me, it’s crashing on take-off on Tobruk which I don’t think we’ll ever get back.

nullpotential@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 23 Aug 07:19 collapse

For me it’s getting sniped, respawning, getting sniped, respawning, getting sniped…

Deyis@beehaw.org on 23 Aug 09:14 collapse

You should definitely consider playing Hell Let Loose!

Gotta be getting team killed for a vehicle.

Desert Combat was so much fun. Really great memories from that mod.

JillyB@beehaw.org on 25 Aug 06:02 collapse

Is that the one with the A10 and cluster bombs?

t3rmit3@beehaw.org on 25 Aug 16:11 collapse

I think so. I was mostly a chopper pilot flying blackhawks so I don’t recall most of the fixed wing aircraft, but an A10 would make sense.

JillyB@beehaw.org on 25 Aug 06:03 collapse

If it’s not a solid 10 minutes to load a map on my parents e-machines PC, it doesn’t feel like Battlefield.

Mm movement :3

“The Sweaty Movement”

Deyis@beehaw.org on 23 Aug 09:13 collapse

Smells as bad as it sounds.

RollForInitiative@feddit.org on 23 Aug 08:43 next collapse

What a shitty title. They could just leave out the first part, wouldn’t change the meaning.

Deyis@beehaw.org on 23 Aug 09:15 collapse

They could have taken out “sweaty” and kept the same meaning but that probably wouldn’t have driven the same engagement.

ranandtoldthat@beehaw.org on 24 Aug 04:04 collapse

“Sweaty” has a specific connotation in video games, so it does provide some meaning.

Deyis@beehaw.org on 24 Aug 06:06 collapse

A specifically negative and demeaning connotation which isn’t necessary.

ranandtoldthat@beehaw.org on 24 Aug 17:54 collapse

Maybe? I’m not that deep in “gamer” culture, so I always just thought of it as descriptive of a particular intensity of play that leads to sweaty palms. We all experience that from time to time, some prefer it, others don’t.

t3rmit3@beehaw.org on 24 Aug 19:16 collapse

No, it means the guys who don’t take hygiene seriously. The Cartman Gamers, so to speak.

Vodulas@beehaw.org on 24 Aug 19:38 collapse

No, it means the other. It is typically used in competitive games. The unshowered gamer is kind of an outdated trope at this point.

t3rmit3@beehaw.org on 25 Aug 03:27 collapse

Interesting. TIL

often used interchangeably with “try-hard” as a newer version of the terminology

Interesting.. I felt like I was the only person that doesn't care for that kind of movement in shooters.

Deyis@beehaw.org on 23 Aug 10:56 collapse

It really depends on the kind of shooter and the average caffeine intake of the people playing it. Works great in Titanfall but doesn’t make sense for Battlefield.

Flamekebab@piefed.social on 23 Aug 11:02 collapse

It feels like an additional layer of mechanics that I didn't sign up for. I used it as necessary when playing Titanfall 2 but didn't care for it there either!

DieserTypMatthias@lemmy.ml on 23 Aug 12:15 next collapse

Just give them Counter-Strike running speeds with slow walk and with crouch.

Deyis@beehaw.org on 23 Aug 12:43 collapse

You’d run faster with your knife out.

Having never played a battlefield game, having last played COD when MW2 released: good! Not every game in the same genre needs to play the same way, and I suspect it’s healthier this way for the “soldier shooter” genre to propose different kinds of experiences.

CapedStanker@beehaw.org on 25 Aug 07:19 collapse

Hey at least they are getting a heads up, valve nerfed bunny hopping with the cs 1.6 patch out of the fucking blue, and it really decimated the tfc communities skills, as many of the best left the game.
