I’m still trying to discover the Secret of how to enjoy this game, after they killed off the likeable main character and replaced him with a smug jackass!

Plenty of fun is left, I assure you!

Sounds like you just started the game! If you like the gameplay, keep going. There’s more to the story.

Honestly, chapter one is way too long, and a bunch of very important plot stuff was for some reason cut as optional content in chapters 2 and 3. I can’t understand their decision there, but I do think it’s very worth muscling through chapter 1 to get at the good bits, and make sure you follow all those side quests.

Act 1 one is very weak unfortunately, it’s a major flaw of the game. After one of the strongest prologues in recent gaming memory they whiplash the narrative into hours and hours of Gestral nonsense and completely ruin the vibe. And none of the main characters react believably to any of the insane bullshit - not to mention react to why they understand Gestral.

I’m glad I pushed through in the end and overall the game managed to stick the landing, but I was very close to abandoning it around the Gestral village.

I did this part today. I think it was alright, old school FF fare.

I strongly disagree, I don’t think act 2’s reveal would hit nearly as hard without all the build up.

Act 1 is how the player is allowed to empathize with maelle, letting you love the gestrals and npcs is what makes the final choice of the game interesting and gives the whole 3rd act stakes.

The main character isn’t who you think it is.

mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 13 Oct 18:59 collapse

The simple answer is that he isn’t the main character. He may be who the first chapter followed, but he’s definitely not the main character in the story. Things really pick up in chapters 2 and 3, and you’ll quickly realize that Gustave was just along for the ride.

Baizey@feddit.dk on 14 Oct 13:40 collapse

He was still the main character for the player, as he was the only character we had full controll over and got to make decisions for. He may not have been the main character for the story tho

Or its more like:

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 still has secrets fans haven’t reported online OR the director didn’t saw it

elvith@feddit.org on 13 Oct 05:30 next collapse

Possible. On the other hand, modern games a crammed full of analytics. Wouldn’t be hard to send signals for every secret and then check if any game has reported those in question as found yet.

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 13 Oct 11:20 collapse

Exactly. Not everyone immediately goes online to discuss every little thing they find in video games.

On top of it, if they do, it might be in a sub forum or community where the director did not look at.
