Can we talk about the Roblox situation?

If anyone can make a compilation of news and articles in the facts, that would be great.

For those who don’t know, Roblox is a publicly traded company and they are down almost 2bn dol on the stock market because they are being accused of facilitating the sexual exploration and grooming of children.

They just banned a player who was groomed by a roblox developer and then started a catch a predator project that resulted in the arrest of 6 adults accused of predating on children using the game.

Chris Hansen contacted the player and they are doing a documentary on the sexual predation that occurs on the plataform. There is a class action, so if you are in the US and know someone who has been abused on roblox, you should contact them.

I don’t know much about the situation, I just watched a couple articles about it.

To top it all off, the CEO announced that roblox is pivoting to becoming a dating website. This is not the onion, fellers.

Another quesion is: where is visa, mastercard now? Shouldn’t they stop working with roblox?

Nono. Playing games with sex: bad. Grooming and sexually abusing kids: The new Summer Trend sparked by President Chomo.

Release the Epstein Files btw.

10,000% truth

Uffff brutal

Why would they stop working with Roblox? It’s the perfect platform for their execs to use when they’re looking to cheat on their SOs.

Porn is too heavily regulated for them, so they don’t like it. To begin with, it has a minimum age requirement that’s much higher than Roblox.

Payment processors (and any banks that are a part of it) can’t really be hated more than they already are. It’s amazing how much someone can fuck over society as a whole without any remorse. Narcissists and psychopaths I guess. I hope I see the companies cease to exist at some point during my life, and not be replaced with something worse (or equally as bad).

Roblox also exploits children directly for labor:

It’s basically their business model.

Seeing as Roblox being a groomer infested hellhole has been known for years it’s surprised me that it took this long for that story to actually break into the mainstream.

But anyways yeah. Predator hive is full of predators, more news at eleven.

People Make Games reported them 3 YEARS AGO.

nothing was done then. Probably same thing is going to happen here. MAYBE roblox gets slightly better modderation, but i doubt it. The inceased modderation could also make the game unplayable for innocent users.

Worst part is that its such a lose lose situation roblox shutting down will remove acess to alot of the hard work the child slave devs did keeping the platform alive. People are going to miss roblox join private servers and boom back at square one. Club Penguin all over again.

I watched a bit of the content creator schlep and was honestly disapointed with how THIS type of content is what triggered this whole debacle. There have been plenty of other people exposing issues prior to this. but i guess if you put a scary thumbnail and read all the chat logs as if youre edging the whole time… whatever gets the preds off the intetnet ig I can at least be happy that people are FINALLY talking about it again.

People have been kidnapped! For fucks sake.

Yeah, this is unfortunately not new.

Also, the security manager sold his shares right before making the public statement about banning Schlepp. Isn’t insider trading even more illegal than child slavery?

They have said clearly that they care more about profits than the safety of the real people, even childen, playing their game.

Roblox is a pure abyss devoid of humanity and I wish them just the worst. Also I belive 100% that everything you wrote is the truth, but I also believe in adding some sources when the matter is of such a significance

descartador@lemmy.eco.br on 18 Aug 13:41 next collapse

Maybe I can add later but I just read superficially about it, maybe someone can contribute with some sources

To me, it was a convenient 3D modelling game engine that allowed for live drop-in/drop-out testing of scripts and functions.

Its just disappointing that the social side has become so catastrophically horrific that it will likely drag the utility down with it.

HarkMahlberg@kbin.earth on 18 Aug 13:40 next collapse

Warning, this article is graphic but it goes over nearly everything that is fucked up about Roblox.

This is, very unfortunately, what happens in every internet space which is targeted towards children and allows communication among users. It is by far the easiest way for anonymous predatory adults to make contact with typically unattended children. I would like at some point to see a child-oriented space on the internet have the highest priority of children’s safety at some point, but there hasn’t been one yet.

descartador@lemmy.eco.br on 18 Aug 17:49 next collapse

But is roblox facilitating and monetizing sexual predation?

Kwakigra@beehaw.org on 19 Aug 00:40 collapse

Definitely. They could do something about this but they would make less profit.

TheFogan@programming.dev on 18 Aug 19:00 collapse

I mean I’m sure there’s been some… but well how popular would they be. I mean the long and short of how it has to be done… no private messages, all public messages heavily monitored. Which unfortunately isn’t a recipe for making a site popular with kids.

LukeZaz@beehaw.org on 19 Aug 04:04 collapse

I made a post about it for a more general discussion but I think it’s worth saying here too: Chris Hansen is an irresponsible hack at best and he is very likely to misinform. There are far better people around if you want to learn about the many harms to children caused by Roblox.
