UPDATE: I will stop using Linux / PC for 10 months. What do you think will happen in that period?

Long story short, I made a post in '23 August about my predictions for linux in the next 10 months. It has been more than 10 months I am here. Old post here: lemmy.world/post/3322139

Here were my predictions:

And the results:

So I got 5/8. Before you ask, no, the “decommision my PC” part didn’t work out. That endeavour lasted only 1 and a half month. But I managed to isolate myself from Linux news.

May I ask why you want to do that?

joeldebruijn@lemmy.ml on 02 Nov 11:50 next collapse

Its in the original post. To create a distraction less or more less environment to prepare for exams.

Trying to avoid using my PC at all costs was a bad idea, I changed my mind because I had to print stuff😅

Deckweiss@lemmy.world on 02 Nov 13:59 next collapse

I print from my phone just fine

mrvictory1@lemmy.world on 02 Nov 16:03 collapse

I tried that, printing worked like %20 of the time.

rain_worl@lemmy.world on 03 Nov 00:19 collapse

decoded: printing worked like of the time

I mean, you can always limit the use of using the computer instead if full out not using it for a certain time frame.

i’ve to stopped ingesting information about the linux ecosystem, experience, status; but i accidentally did it for about 5 years and lemmy is showing me how much i’ve disconnected myself; it seems like we’re both coming back.

Anti-cheat “compatibility” means allowing software kernel level access and after Crowd strike I think that tide will be turning even on Windows.

Anti-cheat will change. Not Linux IMHO.

One of the few good things that came from the Crowdstrike disaster

rain_worl@lemmy.world on 03 Nov 00:17 collapse

there’s always the option of an emulator

rain_worl@lemmy.world on 03 Nov 00:18 next collapse

Wine Is Now an Emulator

wewbull@feddit.uk on 04 Nov 11:14 collapse

I’m not sure there is. The whole point of these anti-cheat systems is to detect running on modified setups that allow for the injection of code. An emulator is one such system.

The anticheat thing is a pain

You will pay 10 months rent
