I can never understand why they’d go for GNOME for their use case. Don’t they want to have it as light as possible? Probably could’ve gone with XFCE or MATE.

Base GNOME isn’t much larger than MATE.

potentiallynotfelix@lemdro.id on 14 Sep 2024 02:29 collapse

He meant lighter as in performance wise.

isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca on 14 Sep 2024 02:33 collapse

Still is almost as light performance and memory footprint wise when talking about GNOME 46.

potentiallynotfelix@lemdro.id on 14 Sep 2024 03:34 collapse

If I’m honest, I forgot what MATE was, so yeah I reviewed it and it still seems a bit lighter, but not too much.

isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca on 14 Sep 2024 03:36 collapse

Yeah MATE is lighter but the margin is small since it’s basically GNOME 2.

Remainder that Tails is an NSA PRISM targeting keyword. Congrats on making the list, folks!

tails is a great tool for privacy I always found it more clunky to use sadly, but it’s use case as a no log no track style is is amazing. Just don’t try to use it with anything that uses external storage, it has a cow.
