No link?

Don_Dickle@lemmy.world on 26 Jul 2024 17:43 next collapse

Still learning don’t know how to link yet.

nokturne213@sopuli.xyz on 27 Jul 2024 21:33 collapse

The sidebar shows the formatting. It is !communityname@instancename or instance/c/community (however the first one is more universal with apps).

Don_Dickle@lemmy.world on 27 Jul 2024 21:50 collapse

Haven’t figured out how to edit a sidebar yet.

nokturne213@sopuli.xyz on 28 Jul 2024 01:40 collapse

No need to edit the sidebar, just view the sidebar here and it explains how to link a community.

Don_Dickle@lemmy.world on 28 Jul 2024 02:08 collapse

I just finally learned how to link. And yes it may seem that I am slow but I am when it comes to this stuff. But can you provide a link that I can go to to better help promote mine and lemmy’s community?

nokturne213@sopuli.xyz on 28 Jul 2024 03:45 collapse

!communitypromo@lemmy.ca is one place. Other servers may have similar.

Don_Dickle@lemmy.world on 26 Jul 2024 17:55 collapse

Here you go lemmy.world/c/amarequests

CommunityLinkFixer@lemmings.world on 26 Jul 2024 17:56 collapse

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn’t work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !amarequests@lemmy.world

Good bot

Thanks for enthusiastically taking this on! Lemmy needed someone in the “Victoria Taylor” role.

Don_Dickle@lemmy.world on 27 Jul 2024 16:51 collapse

I have no clue who that is.

derin@lemmy.beru.co on 27 Jul 2024 20:47 collapse

A rather infamous Reddit employee/administrator who’s generally regarded as being responsible for the Golden aga of IAMA on Reddit (as she personally vetted and brought in some big name AMAs).

She was let go, which was one of the first instances of Reddit’s foray into the realm of anti-community bullshit.

Don_Dickle@lemmy.world on 27 Jul 2024 21:20 collapse

Out of curiousity do you know her name? That would be one hell of an AMA

Blaze@sopuli.xyz on 27 Jul 2024 21:40 collapse

Victoria Taylor?

Don_Dickle@lemmy.world on 27 Jul 2024 21:49 collapse

The only thing google shows is that she work for Iraq and Iran as pretty much a consultant.

derin@lemmy.beru.co on 27 Jul 2024 22:28 collapse

Here’s a link to the Wikipedia article of Reddit - it mentions the protests that ensued after her firing.

Here’s a good r/OutOfTheLoop post about her.

Edit: Let’s round off our coverage of Victoria with a Snopes article about her firing.

and I will try to get them for you

If you don’t mind, I have a few questions/recommendations for you:

Are you someone with a many connections, or are you planning to just cold-call a bunch of notable people and hope for the best?

Where are you planning on hosting the AMAs themselves? On !amarequests@lemmy.world, or on !askmeanything@lemmy.ca? (If the latter, you might want to coordinate with the current mod, @frankyboi@lemmy.ca)

What is your plan for promoting the AMAs (on Lemmy or elsewhere), and collecting questions ahead of time? I think both of these would be an important kickstart for the AMAs, and help ensure their success. For example, a few posts like “Notable celebrity John Smith will be answering questions on August 1st from 11:00 to 13:00 UTC, post your questions for him here” in the weeks/days leading up to the AMA might be a good idea.

Thanks again for taking on this project; looking forward to seeing what comes of it!
