I’ve subscribed. Thanks for posting it despite the chilly reception

Alice@hilariouschaos.com on 20 Feb 16:53 next collapse

Np! Anytime 😊

DonaldJMusk@lemmy.today on 21 Feb 16:06 collapse

Me too!

Wow almost as many downvotes as I got when I launched !news_summary@hilariouschaos.com

Nice to see people moving to an instance that values free speech. I don’t think the average woke Lemmy user has figured out that federation means true free expression for all in a manner that cannot be censored.

Alice@hilariouschaos.com on 20 Feb 17:01 next collapse

Don’t let the negative Nillies of lemmy get you down. I was a little concerned after I saw your promotion post for the news bot community. I didn’t see any more posts from the bot, and I was worried you might have felt discouraged by the negative feed back you got.

But I’m happy to see that the bot is still posting and going strong!

I do have one small ask, (Dmd you, not sure if you got it) but could you upload a Community icon for the news bot community? You don’t have to upload a banner, just community icon image.

I Generated the two below with ai you can choose from, or you can use your own. Either ways fine with us 😊

Thanks for the support. Yeah I was updating the bot and had to migrate the database which took a while (double checking each command cos I don’t wanna lose data).

Also those icons are sick thank you so much I’ll definitely be using one of em.

Alice@hilariouschaos.com on 21 Feb 17:06 collapse

No worries! I just saw three icon uploaded, it looks great! Ty!

Federal_Zombie_9456@hilariouschaos.com on 21 Feb 17:06 collapse

So can’t wait to see which one is chosen.

Alice@hilariouschaos.com on 21 Feb 17:09 collapse

He chose the first one, it think that one is my favorite out of the two lol

DonaldJMusk@lemmy.today on 21 Feb 16:12 collapse

The more posts I see from you, the more I respect you! I know you went through some rough hits and pushback.

Unfortunately I am seeing your home instance, lemm.ee being part of this push against opposing opinions lately.

I am liking the vibe of hilarious chaos a lot. I’m switching to it as my main instance.

muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee on 21 Feb 17:39 collapse

I just say what I think and some people like it some don’t. Some like some of the things I say and hate other things I say.

I haven’t had any issue with .ee yet. As u may know someone made a thread to call me a bigot cos I didn’t silence someone from saying something in a community I modded. The .ee admins where tagged like 6 times in that thread with people calling to memory hole me the admins then said “we will be taking action against this user” which translates to doing literally nothing. I had to message them asking what that action would be to which they responded give up on ur argument its not worth it.

A little neutrality seems to be going a long way with hc.

Tbh I give zero fuck about the hate its very entertaining.

Nemo@slrpnk.net on 20 Feb 18:43 next collapse

No thanks! I decided when I switched to lemmy I was gonna avoid politics communities.

LuxSpark@lemmy.cafe on 20 Feb 19:49 next collapse

There are a number of conservative instances that have popped up. I have yet to see any actual discussion. My experience has been that conservatives get their marching orders from fox news or a few other places and don’t give it any thought. When I visit my Trumper relatives, I know exactly what they will be bitching about. Doesn’t matter if it’s untrue, like Bidens open borders.

DonaldJMusk@lemmy.today on 21 Feb 16:06 collapse

Then block them. They don’t have to be banned though.

Fleur_@hilariouschaos.com on 21 Feb 09:55 next collapse

I’m happy simply because it will cut down on conservative content elsewhere and I can simply filter the community lmao.

DonaldJMusk@lemmy.today on 21 Feb 16:05 collapse

I think more people should follow your example, to be honest.

I prefer people block them, rather than calling for them to be banned. Conservatives have just as much of a right to be here as liberals.

Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world on 21 Feb 11:12 next collapse

Don’t know why this was downvoted.

I likely have an even more cynical take on American “conservatives” than those who are often labelled woke (and paradoxically I don’t always agree with), yet I don’t see the big deal with having a conservative community/instance or whatever.

I mean, Lemmy is rife with tankies; it doesn’t get much worse than that.

DonaldJMusk@lemmy.today on 21 Feb 16:04 collapse

Because Lemmy very much wants an echo-chamber. Even tho many say they left Reddit to get out of echo-chambers.

I’ve seen lots of posts saying variations of, “I don’t think the Fediverse should allow conservative communites.” lol

Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world on 21 Feb 16:24 collapse

FWIW, I think the term “echo-chamber” is way overused, almost to the point of being meaningless. I also don’t believe in the sincerity and coherence of American-style conceptions of “free speech”.

“Fediverse shouldn’t allow convervatives communities” is nuts though. This is not workable from a practical perspective (forget the moral questions for a second).

Racism, overt dehumanisation, denial of widely accepted mass scale human rights abuses; that’s something that can be managed from a moderation standpoint. But this would impact groups across the political spectrum (nazies, tankies, some far right, some far left).

DonaldJMusk@lemmy.today on 21 Feb 16:27 next collapse

Fair point! I agree with all your points made.

I should clarify and say that I think Lemmy very much wants to erase all conservative content from the fediverse. Which is totally against what the fediverse stands for.

davesmith@feddit.uk on 22 Feb 07:55 collapse

The paradox of intolerance: tolerating intolerance immediately results in an intolerant society.

There are various paradoxes and limitations inherent to a socially liberal society (not including the obvious issues of capitalism) that have been exploited by billionaires, fascists, strongmen, religious nuts and many others.

Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world on 22 Feb 09:32 collapse

I very much agree.

But there are other ways to create incentives for avoiding criminal behaviour and corruption (which IMO is closely tied to intolerance - a modern circus if you will).

Things like full asset seizure, mandatory multi-decade live-in community service work as a junior custodian in a medical centre.

If say an oligarch like Mark Zuckerberg (who very likely enabled mass killings in Myanmar both due to lack of concern and “risk management”) had all his assets seized and was sent for 20 years to the Island of Bhasan Char to work all the lowest level janitor on the island, other oligarchs would understand that they need show a modicum of respect and understanding towards others.

DonaldJMusk@lemmy.today on 21 Feb 16:14 collapse

Thank you for supporting this, even tho it goes against the wave of Lemmy. I’ll be switching to you to be my main instance. I am loving the vibe there. You guys are awesome!

🙌🙌✨️✨️✨️ AW! :'D Well thank you so much for the kind words! ♥️ I just approved your application, we’re happy to have you and hope you have lots of fun on HC with us!
