Gitorious-ed too fast.
Let’s see if you’ll get a team around federation now.

I’m so happy I went with a self-hosted Forgejo for my code repo.

Exclusive: Google-backed software developer GitLab explores sale

Wth is that headline?

GitLab is a software developer?

GitLab, which has a market value of about $8 billion, is working with investment bankers on a sale process that has attracted interest from peers, including cloud monitoring firm Datadog, opens new tab, the sources said.

I’m surprised. They’ve always had visions, and paid plans, and pushed a specific vision of their product.

Yeah, I thought the article was fine, though. Writer is more tech focused, editor seems more business focused, and the editor is usually responsible for the headline.

Now it finally makes sense why they didn’t invest in federation. Google has a 22% stake in the company. Federation is of absolutely no use to them. Most likely, if they buy it, Gitlab will be integrated into their GCP offering then stripped for parts to fit whatever vision Google has in GCP.

Although I have no idea why Datadog would want it…

It was nice while it lasted. Hopefully contributors move over to Forgejo.
