Going back to the roots.

New refugee here. Ran away from the chaos that is “new gaming”.

I’ve set up RPCS3, PSX2 and Duckstation (sorry Xbox and other consoles folks. I’m from a country where the PlayStation was the dominant force) and I’ve been having so much fun. What brought me back is the realization of how crappy most new games are. The infinite chase after those “shadows”, “lights”, and “details” has killed gaming. All of this made the hardware requirements really high, and good hardware is really expensive. Also, there is no joy in new games (at least for me). It’s just all the same.

I’ve been going through a catalog of old games I’ve missed out on in my youth, and oh boy! Games were really good back then.

Edit: I welcome all the suggestions if you would like to suggest some good older games.

Crono Cross. You don’t really need to emulate it though, it’s on steam now.

With Radical Dreamers so you don’t need to patch a snes rom for that either.

I’ll be checking that out. Thank you

Katamari games from the PS2/3 era are great

Check out this community and consider enabling achievements on your emulators. I found it really enhances the social aspect of the experience.

I don’t understand what this achievement website does. I do have achievements enabled on my rpcs3, but how do I send them to the site?

VagueAnodyneComments@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 09 Jun 04:52 collapse

make an account and then add your credentials to the emulator

Oh ok. That sounds easy. Thank you so much.

Excellent!!! Love me the ps2 era of gaming.

See if you can find Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. That’s a fun romp.

So many recommendations. I’m saving this post

Shadow of the Colossus has been a long-time favorite of mine. I also liked Fatal Frame. I think I also remember enjoying Rule of Rose, but I have very little memory of that one. I just remember it was weird.

DonutsRMeh@lemmy.world on 09 Jun 03:22 collapse

Will get those, too. So many people recommended SOC. Never played it

My top three favourites from the PS3 era would probably be Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, and Journey.

I do lots of electronic repair and somebody traded me a PlayStation 3 I didn’t want but my curiosity to fix it made me take it. I ended up getting Demon Souls… Holy shit what a great game. It’s actually bite-sized enough that you can sit down and complete it and it’s not insanely difficult. It’s actually pretty easy. But it’s satisfying as helllllllll

That’s awesome. I love fixing things. 5 or 6 years ago when I worked as an installer. A lady was using a brand spanking new PS3 as her Blu-ray player. I was at her house installing a TV and a brand new Blu-ray player. She gave me the PS3. I still have it until now. I even bought more games for it. Thanks for the game suggestion, too. Lol
