Previous years, I went massively over budget. This time, I stuck to around $100. And I swore, I’d only get stuff that I’m truly excited about.

So here’s what I got:

I was tempted to buy a PC Engine console for C$50 but then I’d have yet another console hanging around my house.

All of the games I got are, in my opinion, must-haves.

Woah, a PCE for $50 CAD is like 2021 Japan prices territory, I’d have bought it in a heartbeat!
Really nice pickups! I wish I could have gone this year, but I’m out of town.

I know, but I have so much hardware at my house. I really don’t want to hoard stuff. I have two old PCs I have to get rid of, and a bunch of GPUs too.

I have been thinking a lot of Dark Cloud lately. Was one of the first PS2 games I played after release and have great nostalgia of it. I remember the final 100 floor dungeon but only traversing maybe 40-50 floors before getting burned out and moving onto more games from the PS2 era. I think NFSU was up next in my list.

Loved Dark Cloud. Spent so much time on it. I wanted to play it with emulator but I am pretty sure it is now just a horrible game to play with super rigid gameplay.

Lol same thought here. Was amazing for the time, but I should probably let nastalgia live on in my head and not try to pick it up again for the same reason.

Dark Cloud 2 is still great.

I just did a playthrough recently and I think it holds up pretty well. A lot of wasted time on little cutscenes like opening Atla/boxes, and switching characters that gets quite annoying, but gameplay was fine.

One or two bosses that are difficult but a little leveling up, or wiki hints on how to cheese them, and they are a piece of cake. Once you hit the ship dungeon and have easier access to backrooms (since you can buy the fish to enter them) you can grind for gemstones and you end up being able to one hit almost everything from there on out.

Grinding gets a bit boring after a while, I’ll admit I enabled some fish point cheats in my emulator after I had one character with a maxed out weapon. Clear that I could easily do it myself but wasn’t going to waste that time to upgrade the other weapons I wanted leveled up.

Untold Legends is a vastly under-rated game. It’s too bad the sequel and PS3 versions were hot garbage.

PSP was released in 2004.

If it were a person, it would be able to vote.

Black and White 2 😍

If they come out with 3 I would be soooo happy, assuming they didn’t ruin it

Holy shit I haven’t thought about Sub Terrania since I was a kid! Obnoxiously difficult, and in retrospect the entire concept is baffling, why tf would you use an aircraft to fight in a cave

Untold legends is incredible for a PSP game of that time. The strategy guide certainly helps though since navigating can be a pain. The PS3 Untold Legends was also fun and cheesy.

Also Black & White is a super underrated and forgotten series. Awesome pickups.
