Could you use this with SWISS and play games using retroNAS?

SWISS

??

I’m from there.

Swiss is a homebrew backup launcher for gamecube :)

No, for that you still need a real broadband adapter.

DacoTaco@lemmy.world on 17 Jul 2024 10:29 next collapse

I… Dont know why this exists.
Ive been aware of a few ethernet projects for gamecube and none of them makes sense to me.
All of them use a custom chip/interface and require special code in software.
On top of that, none of them have merged the code into libogc (the open source gamecube homebrew library i help maintain ).
If i were to make a project like this, i’d use a mcu ( pi zero? ) together with a ethernet controller. The mcu would expose the same interface the official bba would, so even games could use it out of the box.
I even made a pcb design for extrems so he had the pcb pinouts just like the official bba to work sonething out of.

But hey, what do i know, right?

I don’t get why they don’t just slot it into the original adapter slot… Nobody wants to plug shit in on the front of the console. It looks like shit when you do that.

DacoTaco@lemmy.world on 18 Jul 2024 05:41 collapse

Exactly. Thats why i made the pcb design for the connector, everything is measured out and the pinout is written out too.
It also is connected to the exi bus, which is shared with the memory cards…
Makes no sense tbh

caseyweederman@lemmy.ca on 18 Jul 2024 12:10 collapse

Oh, those would have to be on the same bus, wouldn’t they? That’s why that one memory card slot SD card adapter works, I was curious about that. I got both but I do prefer the serial port one where you can snap the cover back on.

DacoTaco@lemmy.world on 18 Jul 2024 14:47 collapse

Yes, the serial port, bba and memory card all share the exi bus, so from a software standpoint they can all be communicated with via the same bus interface ( but hardware commands/communication is hardware specific ofc ) For more info :

Ooh, thank you.

“Plug-and-play solution” is definitively not true. Requires homebrew firmware and ISOs on some storage device:

"The Broadband Adapter emulation feature currently does not support loading games from physical discs, so it’s close to useless to people who just wanna revive their old GameCube and not learn the ins and outs of GC homebrew techniques.

Why doesn’t someone create a WiFi solution?
