What am I in for?

So far, um… I’m playing a 90’s fantasy anime and it’s wholesome as shit.

I can’t answer your question, but I have the RG35XX H arriving in a week, and you may have just inspired the first game to play when I get it. 😊

I actually owned Lunar 1 and 2 back in the day but never got around to playing them.

bizarroland@fedia.io on 22 Nov 20:48 collapse

I like Lunar 1 but I never got into Lunar 2.

jordanlund@lemmy.world on 22 Nov 17:49 next collapse

One of the better JRPGs ever done.

Follow up Lunar 1+2 with Suikoden 1+2, then Golden Sun 1+2.

(Optional) Phantasy Star 1-4.

After that, you really don’t need to play any other JRPG.

Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world on 22 Nov 19:33 next collapse

Chrono Trigger?

JDPoZ@lemmy.world on 22 Nov 20:25 collapse

And Earthbound.

cazssiew@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 07:28 collapse

And mother 3. Dear God, mother 3.

Lemming6969@lemmy.world on 22 Nov 22:18 next collapse

Lunar is up there with FF 4 and 6 and Chrono. Likely best 4 retro rpgs that exist.

ChronosTriggerWarning@lemmy.world on 22 Nov 23:36 next collapse

Excuse ME?

capt_wolf@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 13:03 collapse

Username checks out

But really, how could you forget Lufia 1&2?

A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 06:20 next collapse

Breath of Fire 3 is also an excellent, timeless JRPG

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 23 Nov 13:22 next collapse

As usual, Star Ocean: Second Story gets overlooked (they did do a great job with the remake though).

You’re also leaving out the entire SMT/Persona series, but I guess it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

jordanlund@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 22:09 collapse

Persona is a sore subject for me because they ruined the original North American localization.

“So when you finish a random encounter, you can gain experience, or harvest souls!”

“Polling says Americans don’t like random encounters.”

“Oh, that’s easy to fix, reduce random encounters 50%”

Which made it so you either couldn’t get enough experience or harvest enough souls. :(

They also removed the Snow Queen quest for some reason:

Philote@lemmy.ml on 22 Nov 19:27 collapse

Tales of phantasia is a must play as well.

minnix@lemux.minnix.dev on 22 Nov 17:50 next collapse

According to the device reviews, lots of potential problems.

GhiLA@sh.itjust.works on 22 Nov 17:54 next collapse

It was $40 secondhand and has a DSlite battery inside it.

I call it my Shitboy. It’s the device I take to work because I don’t care about it that much, but he’s a dependable little guy.

and MM+ is generally a great device. My battery just died… everything else works.

sic_semper_tyrannis@lemmy.today on 22 Nov 18:34 next collapse

The Miyoo Mini Plus? It plays great and I haven’t had a single issue

SilentStorms@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 22 Nov 18:39 collapse

I have seen nothing but people raving about the Miyoo Mini +. Its cheap enough that if you happen to get a dud its no huge loss.

minnix@lemux.minnix.dev on 22 Nov 18:43 next collapse

Miyoo Mini +

My mistake, I thought it was this one

SilentStorms@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 22 Nov 18:47 collapse

That one isn’t bad either, but that price is way too high. A lot of the problems people have with these consoles is using the cheapo SD card that comes with it.

Lommy@lemmy.world on 22 Nov 21:09 collapse

I have the Anbernic RG35XX and so far it has been an amazing device which I never regretted buying. You can get it for around €50 from Ali. The one linked seems to be a knock-off because I don’t see any Anbernic branding.

moonburster@lemmy.world on 22 Nov 20:59 collapse

I got it 4 times and all were of good quality on release

Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world on 22 Nov 19:35 next collapse

I lost my Miyoo Mini in Greece and want to buy another.

It’s noticeably better than the 35XXsp I got to replace it.

gazby@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 22 Nov 21:51 next collapse

How so? Most of what I’ve read has drawn the opposite conclusion🤷‍♂️

Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world on 22 Nov 22:40 collapse

The buttons on the Miyoo are much better. There are videos on disassembling the SP and putting tape over the buttons to try and fix them.

GarlicOS is much better on the Miyoo compared to SP stock or Muos. It’s a super quick save/power off/boot/restore so when you hit power you are back in your game but because it’s a real power off instead of sleep, you always have power. (Which is why I stopped using my Restroid.)

The SP can do save/restore but it’s slower. The power button is particularly weird. You press power, wait two seconds, light comes on, then it boots.

The only thing the SP has going for it is the form factor.

riquisimo@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 23 Nov 03:00 next collapse

GarlicOS? Do you mean OnionOS?

gallopingsnail@lemmy.sdf.org on 23 Nov 06:48 next collapse

I think OnionOS is for the Miyoo Mini, and GarlicOS is for Anbernic devices.

Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 17:49 collapse

Yeah I get them mixed up.

gazby@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 25 Nov 06:46 collapse

Thank you for the detailed reply! My bad, I confused this with the Miyoo Flip since the comparison was with the SP. I’d tend to agree that in comparison to anything of a V or H form factor the Anbernic SP is underwhelming 👍

mesamunefire@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 03:25 collapse

Onion os is a treasure. The devs are awesome.

pseudo@jlai.lu on 22 Nov 23:11 next collapse

fun?

TheLightItBurns@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 00:26 next collapse

I sometimes still hum the opening theme to Silver Star Story from my time playing the OG on PSX when it released. The game is just wonderful, hopeful, and fun. Enjoy!

DaneGerous@lemmy.world on 24 Nov 14:44 collapse

OG?

I’m playing a 90’s fantasy anime and it’s wholesome as shit

Yep, it’ll meet those expectations (and probably not exceed them).

As for being wholesome, well…there is a small part of the game that’s on the pervy side.

Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works on 23 Nov 02:28 next collapse

Name a JRPG that DOESN’T have a horny side.

DerisionConsulting@lemmy.ca on 23 Nov 02:32 next collapse

I don’t remember Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked being horny, but it’s been a while

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 23 Nov 13:19 collapse

I haven’t played through that one, but if the demon “Mara” is in it, then you bet your ass it’s horny lol.

Giant pulsing/dripping cock on wheels.

Well, plus all the other lady demons basically being naked. I believe most SMT games have succubi of sorts, and horniness is like their one known trait.

Ashtear@lemm.ee on 23 Nov 02:49 collapse

Like what Lunar does? It’s pretty rare outside of the ecchi/outright eroge subgenres.

Tikiporch@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 03:52 collapse

Remind me of the pervy part? There’s a chance my hormone riddle brain found it acceptable and not noteworthy and have since forgot.

Ashtear@lemm.ee on 23 Nov 04:03 collapse

spoiler

There are bromides (pictures) you can collect of the girls in the game.

Most of them aren’t outright risque (it’s not like The Witcher 1, nor is the context), it’s mostly the concept itself that’s a little out of place.

Nastybutler@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 01:57 next collapse

A ticket, if caught while driving

Tikiporch@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 03:49 next collapse

I bought this game solely based on the full page ad in Playstation magazine. I put my hard earned cash down on a pre-order of the complete edition at “Software, Etc.” at the shopping mall, sight unseen, with FF7 my only frame of reference on JRPGs. Definitely my favorite JRPG from my childhood.

My only regret is selling it, along with a Ghaleon puppet, on eBay a few years back.

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 23 Nov 13:18 collapse

Software, Etc

Holy shit, core memory unlocked. I completely forgot that the Gamestop at our local mall was previously “Software, Etc.”

Goddamn.

I regret selling all of my PS1 and PS2 games. Back when the other (standalone) Gamestop in my town growing up was still a “Funco Land,” I found used copies of Tactics Ogre, and Ogre Battle (I think it was a two-disc Special Edition or something?) on PS1 for very cheap, and then sold them on eBay for like $150. I remember thinking I was so clever… Now I wish I had just kept them.

aeronmelon@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 05:54 next collapse

Friends don’t let friends Lunar and drive.

oascany@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 06:08 next collapse

Completely unrelated but I love the Civic Si, what gen is that one?

ClassifiedPancake@discuss.tchncs.de on 23 Nov 06:20 next collapse

A crash if you play that while driving

LouNeko@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 11:53 collapse

It’s fine, it’s an automatic.

Jimb@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 13:22 collapse

I think all Civic Si models are manual. Uh oh

That’s my understanding. Op’s playin with fire 😬

Yep, got the spirit of 500 really Monster’d up teenagers under the hood of this baby.

Sometimes I swear I see giant gold rings in front of this car and a counter collecting them.

Juice260@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 15:15 next collapse

An absolute delight. That’s the very game that got me into RPGs. Until I copped Harmony on PSP my brain focused on nothing but Halo and COD.

108@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 15:25 next collapse

I loved Lunar. I wound up playing the second one first. Then went back to play the first. <img alt="" src="https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/169e638f-35da-4c78-b172-50a1e953da71.jpeg">

I did actually buy 3rd strike, though!

The majority of the ones in the spindle are actual discs I collected with out cases. I need to properly store them at some point.

Grofit@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 15:46 next collapse

What a gem, my friend and I played through the first 2 lunar games in university.

I also discovered wild Arms which was pretty good and doesn’t get much attention compared to jrpgs like FF and Suikoden.

Kolanaki@yiffit.net on 23 Nov 22:10 next collapse

Depends. Is it the version with voice acting (it looks like it; says complete)? Because you’ll be in for some cute cutscenes and awesome songs.

I actually only ever played Lunar because I saw it for sale at Walmart in a huge boxed set for like $100, in the pS3 era. I was curious enough as to why they would still have a PS1 game for that much that I had to buy it.

raynethackery@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 22:40 next collapse

Not game related, but how do you get your legs completely on one side of the steering column like that?

Aermis@lemmy.world on 23 Nov 23:18 next collapse

Lmao. Some cars have more than your civic

GhiLA@sh.itjust.works on 26 Nov 10:53 collapse

the car in the photo is a Civic

CrayonRosary@lemmy.world on 24 Nov 08:55 collapse

Eh, it depends. Some people swear the 3ds is uncomfortable as hell but I’ve never felt it.
Maybe I just have small hands…
