At The Game Awards 2024, Capcom officially announced a sequel to the iconic action-adventure game Okami, with the working title “Okami Sequel". Directed by Hideki Kamiya, known for his work on the original as well as Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, and Bayonetta.

No specific release date has been announced yet. The teaser trailer showcased lush, painterly graphics similar to those seen in the original Okami. More details are expected as production progresses

Do you think “Okami Sequel” can live up to the original?

I remember the original getting a lukewarm reception.

It was beautiful, played well, but extremely short and not very challenging.

But it was a long time ago, I could be misremembering.

I don’t think it was very challenging, but the game played without trying to collect everything is around 30 hours, which doesn’t seem short to me.

There were three distinct arcs to it, so that might contribute to it feeling short.

Yeah, the playtime is definitely on par with the Zelda games of that era. Not short at all.

This is fantastic! I hope there is a more controller friendly way of painting though. It worked well on the Wii but the PS2 and PC version aren’t fun to draw on.

They could possibly implement optional gyro controls on any platform but Xbox. It doesn’t necessarily have to have the same kind of painting mechanic either, but it would give up a large part of its uniqueness if it didn’t.
