I’m confused, wasn’t PSO an MMO?

From the link

The reasons for Farnation’s cancellation are unknown. Rumors suggest that some SEGA executives were pointing out the many similarities with Phantasy Star Online in terms of gameplay experience.

Right, but I’m confused by OP’s question. They’re asking how the Dreamcast might have turned out if it’d had an MMO, but it did have an MMO.

Like the article mentions, PSO was released on the Dreamcast, and had an MMO component.

Not sure what this would have done different?
