MicroProse: A Company With a Long History in Gaming, Releasing ‘Cleared Hot’

MicroProse is set to release a new game called Cleared Hot, which draws inspiration from the classic Desert Strike series. This new heli-shooter aims to bring nostalgia while incorporating modern gameplay mechanics.

Key Points:

Single-Player Campaign

Cleared Hot offers a rich single-player campaign with customizable helicopters and a mission set across various environments. Engage with different types of enemy vehicles like tanks, boats, fighter jets.

The game aims to fill the void left by the Desert Strike series, which hasn’t had a new entry in over 27 years. It combines exciting physics-driven action with strategic gameplay, delivering a fresh and familiar experience for fans of the genre.

Do you think Cleared Hot might become the next iconic helicopter shooter in the gaming world?

YAS. The Strike series of games were so underrated and overlooked. Nobody has really revisited that style since, so I’m excited for it.

I swear I was just thinking yesterday that I should emulate the old games on my PC. Great news this looks awesome!

This is understating things! I believe, IP rights aside, the current company has nothing to do with the brands glory days.

Regardless, I’m so happy they’ve resurrected it. I first became aware of them when High Fleet came out, and then Carrier Command 2. They definitely publish game with a style and I love it.

I’m a pessimist.

I think it would be ‘overstating’ deepening on which side of the fence you sit. Microprose can’t possibly be the same team members they were 20-40 years ago. If you are nostalgic for a game you played as a child then maybe be a little guarded for what a completely different group does with the IP.

Sure, but the developer is an indie that has been developing this as a passion project for years and showing it off in various states of progress. If the iconic logo is the only thing the current publisher can add to this then it’s still worth it.

I never played Desert Strike but really loved Firefight in ‘96 and have been hoping something similar would be made again, this looks like it could be some fun.

You can wishlist it on Steam! The developer says he has been playtesting it on the Deck, too.
