I think it did some permanent damage to my eyes

I played the VB a ton when I was a kid. I guess I was just a dumb kid but it always felt fine to me, I never felt any eye strain or anything. Maybe I just have super eyes.

The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world on 26 Nov 17:09 next collapse

Maybe they would be twice as super though!

Matriks404@lemmy.world on 26 Nov 17:52 collapse

A ton? Did you have all like 10 games available for that system?

Zarxrax@lemmy.world on 26 Nov 18:00 collapse

I actually did have about 10 games, they went on sale for like $3 each when it was determined that the system was a failure.

Outtatime@sh.itjust.works on 27 Nov 07:53 collapse

That is the only time first party Nintendo games go on sale

Kolanaki@yiffit.net on 26 Nov 17:06 next collapse

The best way to play this thing is to get a headband or something so you can strap it to your face like a real VR helmet, then just lay back in bed and jam.

I absolutely loved this thing for the actual game experience. The design for how you were supposed to use it, though, was absolute shit. Not even the children it was made for sit that low to a table for it to really be comfortable. You would almost always have to hunch over awkwardly and you’d definitely want a pillow or something for your chin… Just awful.

The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world on 26 Nov 17:10 next collapse

I remember trying to play it in the car by pressing it into the seat in front of me with my head. Lol

Zarxrax@lemmy.world on 26 Nov 17:46 next collapse

Lol, it weighs a couple of pounds. I remember trying to strap it to my head somehow, but it was just too heavy to stay up. You would need some kind of shoulder harness or something. Then if you were to lay on your back with it, the thin foam around the goggles just gives away and you got a block of heavy plastic pressing into your face.

NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 04:20 collapse

Laying down in bed was the way to play. It was great.

MrJameGumb@lemmy.world on 26 Nov 17:28 next collapse

I had the Virtual Boy system when I was a kid and I feel like I’m the only person who actually enjoyed it lol I don’t recall ever getting any headaches but then I wasn’t on there all day or anything

atocci@lemmy.world on 26 Nov 18:14 next collapse

Similarly, I’m the only person I know who enjoys the 3DS for the 3D screen

Grangle1@lemm.ee on 26 Nov 18:57 next collapse

I too am a 3D screen enjoyer on the 3DS. But I don’t really play fast-moving games where the 3D would create vision issues.

NOPper@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 00:09 next collapse

I really did but the framerate in almost every game that used it dropping by half killed me.

jqubed@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 01:44 next collapse

I enjoyed it, although I’m not sure it really added much. I mainly played Mario Kart 7.

lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network on 04 Dec 19:43 collapse

The 3DS’ 3D was actually great and people who claim to hate it just hate progression!

atocci@lemmy.world on 04 Dec 19:46 next collapse

It was great, and society has only regressed since we gave up on 3D displays

14mission@sfba.social on 04 Dec 19:48 collapse

@lord_ryvan @atocci I liked it too. Unfortunately my 3ds broke and I ended up replacing it with a late 2ds, which is mostly fine since most of what I play are old GBA games, and I got a bigger screen that way. But someday I might want to redo Ocarina and then I might care.
Has anyone had any luck with 3D emulation? I tried Citra with colored 3d glasses once, but didn't get too far. But I think frankly I just needed a better computer.

ouRKaoS@lemmy.today on 26 Nov 20:03 next collapse

Teleroboxer is one of the best games that no one played

MrJameGumb@lemmy.world on 26 Nov 20:11 collapse

I had that one and it was awesome!

TheColonel@reddthat.com on 27 Nov 00:19 collapse

I really thought it was cool but was way too expensive for what it was.

A friend of mine whose parents were divorced had it. He let me play it a ton and I didn’t get any dizziness or eye damage.

NounsAndWords@lemmy.world on 26 Nov 17:43 next collapse

There was a boxing Kangaroo and I hated him so fucking much.

LiveLM@lemmy.zip on 26 Nov 18:05 next collapse

Fun fact: If you have a 3DS, you can now experience these games in 3D with the Red Viper emulator!

DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 26 Nov 18:57 next collapse

Also meta quest has a VR app VB emu

lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network on 04 Dec 19:45 collapse

Sure but it’s from Facebook

CrayonRosary@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 20:25 collapse

I recently did this and Warioland was awesome!

IlIllIIIllIlIlIIlI@lemmy.world on 26 Nov 23:05 next collapse

I tried it for about 3 minutes. I had something similar to dizziness the next two ours. The immersion was nice tho.

caseyweederman@lemmy.ca on 26 Nov 23:53 next collapse

Nintendo was doing that as early as 1987:

Famicom 3D System

Sho@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 03:59 next collapse

Warioland was a solid game, sad it hasn’t gotten a re-vamp yet.
