I found this amazing trilogy for free at a swap shop! The Legacy Of Time was my favorite game as a kid! I never played the others, but now is my chance.

My grandmother had the “turbo” version of #2 for some reason. It’s the only one I’ve ever played, but I loved it. The actual gameplay wasn’t great, but the graphics, sounds, and story all blew me away at that time. It was so futuristic and cool.

LazaroFilm@lemmy.world on 14 Aug 2024 12:59 collapse

You got to try the #3 Legacy of time then! The characters are real actors filmed, the cut scenes are like small movies! I’ve never seen anything like this before (or after)

CheeryLBottom@lemmy.world on 14 Aug 2024 16:44 next collapse

I did play this one. Good memories!

Full Motion Video (FMV) games were huge in the mid to lates 90s. Wing Commander even had Mark Hamill as a fighter pilot for multiple games using FMV. It was a weird time for games.

Looks like, nasty weather…

And it may even rain.

AndrewZabar@lemmy.world on 14 Aug 2024 13:33 next collapse

I don’t think I ever tried these! I found them available on Archive so I will try them out.

I was there weird kid in high school that had a Mac but still liked playing computer games. My band teacher lent me his copy. It was the first point and click adventure game I actually finished!

LazaroFilm@lemmy.world on 14 Aug 2024 15:36 collapse

I loved point and click games! I definitely was that weird kid too lol

I’m from France and this gave was only in English (a family friend from San Francisco gave it to me) and I decided to finish it with a friend of mine that spoke English. We had a dictionary and looked up every word we didn’t understand. This game helped me learn English and now I live in New York!

My list of favorite point and clicks were:

  • Atlantis (all 3 games) by Cryo (a French game studio)
  • Versailles also by Cryo,
  • basically all Cryo interactive games
  • Amerzona
  • Myst/Raven (but I didn’t play it as much, I liked the story driven ones and Myst was too much of a puzzle with no story for me)

FINALLY! SOMEBODY ELSE!

I FINALLY FOUND SOMEBODY ELSE WHO REMEMBERS AND CELEBRATES THE JOURNEYMAN PROJECT TRILOGY!

I’m sorry, I’m just…I’m very happy for this moment.

Legacy of Time was far and away my favorite, but the entire collection is a fun and satisfying playthrough. Great atmosphere, clever puzzles, and loads of 90s PC gaming cheese and charm.

Long live Gage Blackwood.

LazaroFilm@lemmy.world on 14 Aug 2024 17:27 next collapse

And Arthur! Man Arthur was such a fun companion. Witty, funny and was also helpful in guiding you into harder puzzles without just giving you the answer!

Hell. Yeah. Arthur was the greatest.

Just look at that little guy, posting up in the HUD and crackin’ wise.

Now I want to make a AI Smart home assistant modeled on Arthur. With that little robot on a mirror hologram or something…

I started modelling him in CAD a while back but got distracted by other stuff

There’s a lovely series called Mysty. Part of a YouTube channel that I originally found because the guy is stumbling through creating his own 3D graphics engine.

In Mysty he plays a lot of the old Myst-like games, many I’d never heard of. It’s funny and worth checking out. He has played the first two Journeyman games so far. youtube.com/@notthefuture1881

You are not alone. Legacy of Time was one of my favorite games growing up. Unfortunately I never got to play the rest

I only played Project Turbo, and certainly never finished it, but it was incredible for its time. I still picture that hotel now and then. I need to find the soundtrack in all it’s glorious vaporwave goodness.

graymess@lemmy.world on 14 Aug 2024 18:49 next collapse

I don’t know anything about this game/series, but that looks like such a cool bundle. If I found that as a kid, I would be hyped as hell to play it. Can just imagine unfolding that packaging with all the discs would feel like opening a treasure chest.

LazaroFilm@lemmy.world on 14 Aug 2024 20:07 collapse

Believe me I kinda had that feeling when I found it just sitting there in the swap shop (swap shop is a small shack at the dump where people put things they don’t want but still works. There are a lot of dishes, silverware, tools, moldy books, old toys, some old electronics, and sometimes retro games. I found a Wii classic controller and a GameGear there before and now this!)

Also I highly recommend playing the #3 Legacy of time (you can find it on Internet archive). It’s still awesome!

I only ever played the first one! My dad picked up the CD somewhere while working on a busted computer, I think? I replayed it like 12 times because I thought it was so interesting as a kid.

jecxjo@midwest.social on 14 Aug 2024 21:15 next collapse

Wow, one of my childhood friends and I were just talking about our favorite old games and Journey Project was on that short list.

LazaroFilm@lemmy.world on 14 Aug 2024 23:28 collapse

What were the other ones?

jecxjo@midwest.social on 15 Aug 2024 00:05 collapse

They were all in the Click n Cutscene style (think they all may be ScummVM games)

  • The 7th Guest / The 11th Hour
  • The Tex Murphy series
turbodrooler@lemmy.world on 15 Aug 2024 02:07 next collapse

I remember always seeing these games in the store, and advertised in magazines. I need to seek these out.

LazaroFilm@lemmy.world on 15 Aug 2024 02:11 collapse

They’re on Internet archive… for archival reasons… 😉

turbodrooler@lemmy.world on 15 Aug 2024 02:19 collapse
