Is the a rule that a pope can’t be bird? I know he has to be a baptized catholic male and accept of their own free will (added after a tiny incident), but did they ever specify human?

match@pawb.social on 03 May 23:17 next collapse

i suppose if he was a Franciscan that would be fine

Thekingoflorda@lemmy.world on 04 May 05:51 collapse

The problem is that they have the say they accept the role as pope. So maybe a talking parrot?

Avian discrimination

My favorite is the red-crested cardinal(Paroaria coronata) but I know their chances of becoming Pope are slim because it’s very unlikely they’d elect two South-American cardinals in a row.

Tikiporch@lemmy.world on 04 May 02:10 collapse

Not a true cardinal either.

lugal@sopuli.xyz on 03 May 22:12 next collapse

Thrilling to the end

Ngl, I would be happy if the cardinal that lives in our yard became pope. He’s a cool little dude, and much closer to the divine than any human.

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 03 May 22:23 collapse

I had a cardinal that would repeatedly bash itself unconscious at whatever window my dad was in. He liked to joke it was his mother. It went on for years. It was fucking wild. It was the same damn bird.

southsamurai@sh.itjust.works on 03 May 22:52 collapse

They are not the smartest birds, that’s for sure. Pretty, and entertaining, but not too bright

skulblaka@sh.itjust.works on 04 May 01:59 collapse

Hey, I resemble that remark.

Not to be a meme-pedant but how is the Northern Cardinal from Italy?

SpongyAneurism@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz on 04 May 06:44 next collapse

I too was confused about the indicated countries.

fireweed@lemmy.world on 04 May 16:54 collapse

Bothered me as well so I went and looked it up, because sometimes animals I associate with North America are present in Eurasia too.

Northern cardinal range:

So definitely a North America exclusive, and it seems all cardinals, the Cardinalidae family, are New World birds. Stupid meme made me go learn something.

(Also “desert cardinal – Hungary” should have tipped us all off that the country assignments were random)

Very informative! Thanks! I hope the next pope is a bird!

Why no Kyler Murray?

azi@mander.xyz on 04 May 00:56 next collapse

Ain’t no rule says the bird can’t be pope.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world on 04 May 05:59 next collapse

I vote flammulated cardinal

Fucking discrimination! Replace the “a bird” with “black” and reflect on your bigotry.

lennivelkant@discuss.tchncs.de on 04 May 07:01 collapse

I mean, this is the Catholic Church we’re talking about. They’re not particularly known for fair hiring policies.

Geodad@lemm.ee on 04 May 12:53 collapse

Honestly, a birb could do a better job.
