Nice 3D magic eye picture

quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 13 Jul 10:15 next collapse

Lovely, it took me a while until I zoomed out a little.

argh_another_username@lemmy.ca on 13 Jul 10:43 next collapse

I’ve never seen any one of these.

It takes practice. My elementary school had these on the bookshelves we used for indoor recess, so I spent several hours just staring and staring, hoping for something to happen. Eventually due to the boredom of the staring, my eyes defocused naturally and I saw enough of an effect to realize that was the whole trick. Then from there I tried to gain conscious control of my focus depth while adjusting the viewing distance, until finally I fully got it :)

Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org on 13 Jul 11:00 next collapse

I’ve never seen one with this much depth. Pretty neat.

otter@lemmy.ca on 13 Jul 11:28 collapse

I don’t know how these are made, but this one is very well done

crapwittyname@feddit.uk on 13 Jul 12:06 collapse

They use computers, or so I’m told.

pyre@lemmy.world on 13 Jul 20:21 collapse

yeah even I was able to make some of those noisy ones back in the late 90s. we had found program that does it if you give it a depth map in black and white.

PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works on 13 Jul 12:14 next collapse

I never could see the bigger picture intended by these, but it’s very pretty on its own.

Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works on 13 Jul 13:06 next collapse

Its just a 3D version of what you see.

If you’re on mobile, open the pic in landscape mode. Put your nose to the bottom of your phone, cross your eyes and slowly pull away from the picture. It often takes a handful of tries, but eventually you will see it.

Never had that not work for someone if they cared enough to keep trying it.

zkfcfbzr@lemmy.world on 13 Jul 13:43 collapse

This is one of the better ones I’ve seen. It looks actually pretty 3D.

Make the image as large as you can on your screen while still having it all visible. I don’t recommend a phone - try it on a monitor. Don’t try to see the whole image at once - look at one small part. Play with the focus of your eyes until you start to see an edge forming - and when you do, lock onto the edge until you can see it without struggling. Just try to make the edge clearer without bothering with the larger shape yet. Once you do, it should be easier to hold the focus as you look around the image and actually pick out what shapes everything is making.

I recommend focusing on this part of the image as you start - there’s a pretty cool sea turtle there. Don’t use this version with the red scribble, the red scribble makes it noticeably more difficult.

Hey thanks! That really helped, appreciate the time you took to explain it. :)

Sirence@feddit.org on 13 Jul 13:09 next collapse

That one is so nice, are there more in that style, where it’s hidden things + cool 3d Background? The ones I usually see are only a hidden object in random noise background

perishthethought@piefed.social on 13 Jul 13:27 next collapse

I see a turple!

Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 13 Jul 13:30 next collapse

I’m very good at magic eye. It’s a gift.

Alteon@lemmy.world on 13 Jul 13:50 collapse

This is the first time I’ve ever been able to do one in my entire life. I’ve tried for years. It’s like I just unlocked an achievement. I now have to go dig up all my magic eye books. I will say though, I’m floored by how 3d it all looks. The depth is surprising.

Also surprised by just how easy it is to get knocked out of the illusion by just barely tilting the screen.

SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de on 13 Jul 13:55 next collapse

tbh, this is the first time I’ve seen a magic eye image that actually incorporates the imagery into the effect. Normally it’s not related

Almacca@aussie.zone on 13 Jul 18:31 collapse

Same here. I could do the cross-eyed 3D pretty easily, but never the wall-eyed ones, until now.

Alteon@lemmy.world on 13 Jul 13:47 next collapse

Oh…my god. This was the first

TimewornTraveler@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 13 Jul 13:58 next collapse

doesn’t work on phone gang checking in

stelelor@lemmy.ca on 13 Jul 14:52 next collapse

Works perfectly on my phone, maybe try landscape orientation and vary the distance?

RheumatoidArthritis@mander.xyz on 13 Jul 18:42 collapse

Works in portrait on mine

Coopr8@kbin.earth on 13 Jul 18:54 collapse

worked for me, the smaller it is the harder it can be to focus right though.

It’s a schooner.

You dumb bastard. It’s a sailboat!
