can someone explain pls?

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 10 Sep 09:41 collapse

Tldr Blue Razz in Europe and USA taste different. Americans use an artifical blend, Europe doesn’t.

CheesyFox@lemmy.sdf.org on 10 Sep 09:48 next collapse

yeah, i got that at least. What’s up with it in America tho?

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 10 Sep 09:49 next collapse

Poor food regulations and corn syrup.

ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world on 10 Sep 11:09 collapse

What’s up is that food companies would feed you sawdust and poison if it was cheaper and if they could get away with it.

jaybone@lemmy.zip on 10 Sep 09:54 next collapse

Never heard of blue razz in the US.

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 10 Sep 09:59 next collapse

Are you sure you have never had a blue Jolly Rancher or blue 7/11 slushie?

jaybone@lemmy.zip on 10 Sep 10:04 next collapse

Maybe when I was a kid I suppose.

floo@retrolemmy.com on 10 Sep 11:27 collapse

They’re called a “Slurpee“ at 7-11

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 10 Sep 10:17 collapse

It’s literally every “blue” flavoured food in the US. ;)

swab148@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 10 Sep 21:27 collapse

But suspiciously, not blue Gatorade

Cort@lemmy.world on 10 Sep 22:10 collapse

They do, it is called ‘cool blue’

Droggelbecher@lemmy.world on 10 Sep 11:11 next collapse

I’ve been to over 20 European countries and I have never seen anything blue raspberry flavoured. I assumed it was an American thing and that it was just raspberry flavoured things that were also dyed blue.

Currently munching on these in the UK. The natural flavour is the European version. The US version is sweeter.

Droggelbecher@lemmy.world on 10 Sep 11:35 next collapse

Interesting! I haven’t been to GB in quite some years, so I might just have seen them and not remembered. Does it taste like raspberry?

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 10 Sep 11:40 collapse

Sort of, more like a blackberry mixed with Ribena. Check out the plant: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubus_caesius

Rubus caesius is a Eurasian species of dewberry, known as the European dewberry.[2] Like other dewberries, it is a species of flowering plant in the rose family, related to the blackberry and raspberry. It is widely distributed across much of Eurasia.

Droggelbecher@lemmy.world on 10 Sep 11:43 collapse

Fascining, thanks! I might try that if I remember when I’m in GB next year

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 10 Sep 11:48 collapse

They’re great!! ( ^▽^)

snooggums@piefed.world on 10 Sep 11:59 next collapse

I love that you brutally ripped open with the opposite corner just to show the directions that you are the boss.

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 10 Sep 17:45 collapse

I don’t like listening to corporate lmao.

yucandu@lemmy.world on 10 Sep 13:27 collapse

Is this the new blue natural food colouring made with cyanobacteria poop?

Cause I’m pretty sure they don’t allow artificial blue in UK anymore.

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 10 Sep 17:45 collapse

Haha, I don’t know but awesome if true.

yucandu@lemmy.world on 10 Sep 18:37 collapse

well you could look at the ingredients

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 10 Sep 20:41 collapse

Do you know the name of the ingredient or have a link? :)

yucandu@lemmy.world on 10 Sep 20:47 collapse

confectionerynews.com/…/blue-smarties-are-back-th…

The ingredients will say “spirulina”.

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 10 Sep 20:51 collapse

Yes! It contains that. That is super cool. Thanks for the link. It’s the 3rd to last ingredient.

Kolanaki@pawb.social on 10 Sep 22:16 collapse

So what does blue raspberry actually taste like over there? Because the name seems pretty apt here in the US; it tastes like extra sour raspberry.

fossilesque@mander.xyz on 10 Sep 23:13 collapse

A bit like blackberry.

AlligatorBlizzard@sh.itjust.works on 10 Sep 09:44 collapse

I was drinking some blue raspberry flavored sparkling ‘water’ while reading this and… holy shit it is banana pineapple and cherry. O_O
